Sports etc.

For those of you accepted to USNA, what sports or other activities do you want to do if and when you go? I really want to run track, and I think it'd be a lot of fun to run there.

How about everyone else? Ahh, so many options... :-)

Shawna ill be joinin ya on the track :)

not sure about sports (dont know what im good at)... but definetly something with the church.

yeah alli! go track! "fast girls have good times"!

haha, okay, only the track version applies to me.

sparkleandshine, what kind of thing? like singing or something like that? i'm sure that'd be fun.

yeah maybe choir. my sis does choir at west point and she really likes it. if not maybe some kind of Bible study or church group.... not sure what they have with the church.

Swimming all the way.

dbh..what do u swim?!?

I'm hoping for jv soccer and club and intermurals, also club and int. lacrosse...as for the pE system, lots of hand to hand combat classes, and rock climbing, i love rock climbing..anybody on here tlak to the Varsity Soccer coach?

Hey, did all of you do Varsity sports in high school? Is it sort of required to do a varsity sport to get in anyway?

yes, varsity cross country. not sure if its required.

1down1togo - i've been a three-season varsity athlete every year in high school; and since my school starts in 7th grade, i've actually been competing varsity since 7th grade. i don't think it's a requirement, because i've known of people who've gotten in without them, but they do other intense athletic activities.

Alot people have told me to lose weight and play sprint football.

Sprint football is tons of fun... that is what I do now. I started on the men's varsity track team but tore my medial meniscus in my left knee (only slighty) but now that i'm back, sprint is so much fun. What is your weight right now?

1down1togo: It's true Varsity athletics are not required, but something like 80-85% of the incoming class participate in Varsity Athletics in high school. So you might say it's almost an expectation...

My son wants to do power-lifting. I guess there is a team for that.

SpiderMD...that's what I did, tor my medial meniscus in my left knee running track in fact I had surgery yesterday. But, I if I receive an appointment to the Academy, i hope to run middle distance on the Women's Varsity team, it has been my dream for a long time now. I'm just waiting now to see how things go

The torpedo is Navy Lax all the way!

"What is your weight right now?"

Around 175-180.

What is the weight requirement for sprint football, I've heard different things.

Sorry to hear about your knee surgery- hope all went well (and they don't disqualify you for it-have your discussed this with your BGO? )
My question was really whether or not the difference between varsity and jv matters. I know the stats say close to 85 % of admits have played "varsity" sports. I wonder if consideration is given as to which type of school the applicant is coming from- large/small urban/rural etc, and how selective it is to make the hs varsity team. So this question is about admissions, not so much choosing a sport when you're in, which I hope will be the case someday! Thanks

Swim, I swim the 50 and 100 Free... my babies... haha, I love them. I'm hoping to walk on. I think I should be able to. What about you?
