So this past week I injured my knee, tearing my ACL. As some of you may know, damaging your ACL requires surgery in order to heal, as it cannot heal on its own, and a 6-9 month recovery time. I play a fall sport and this year I will be a senior. I was hopeful for being captain, however, that seems to have gone down the drain. So, my question is will this negatively impact my resume for college? Both not playing the sport senior year and not being captain?

Oh my goodness I’m so sorry! I have the same problem. I was captain of my volleyball team last year (junior year) and was going to be this year, but I need knee surgery for a displaced patella, so obviously I can’t play. But I don’t think it will impact negatively for me, because at my school you either need to play a sport for that trimester or you do PE, and as I won’t be doing PE my transcript will write “excused due to injury/medical reasons” so when colleges see that I think they’ll know that not playing volleyball wasn’t my choice. I don’t know if your school does that, but just make sure to get it on your application that you have an injury and you’ll be fine. They won’t penalize you for hurting yourself.

Eeee i’m so sorry to hear that. I’ve heard how painful that can be. Was it a complete tear or a partial? Did you end up getting surgery? I know that if it is a partial tear, surgery isn’t always necessary. Let us know how you doing…
