If your planning to do a Sports Management course your going to love it. I did a Sports Management short course at the Adidas Academy in summer 2010 (London). It was amazing, the course ran over two weeks and gave me an in-dept look into Sports Management.

I was planning to start my own Sunday League football/soccer team but sadly I can’t produce enough money. Either way I wish you good luck on your journey. Please keep me updated.

do u think i can get into Indiana university, university of miami, University of Georgia, or Syracuse University based on the stats i already provided i am out of state for all of these btw thxs let me know!

My son has a passion for sports and would love to make a career involving sports. He graduated with a Bachelors degree in Communications. He has been accepted into the Masters Programs at Ithaca College and the University of San Francisco. I would really appreciate any information you could share with me about the two programs.

I am currently a senior in high school and i will be studying sports management at the University of Miami and their program is GREAT. a lot of internship oppurtunities hear in Miami. My one advice is to go to a big school in a big city.
my ideal list:
Rice
UMiami
Umich
NYU
UTexas
Cuse
UOregon

If im out of state for all of them and i have a 3.9 no honors…act of 26 and community service 100 hours out of that list which schools can i get in?

Im curently a junior in HS and im interested in sports management. I have a 4.1 gpa all honors/ap classes, many extra curriculars, and former D1 college football prospect until i had a career ending neck injury. This injury struck my interest in SM. Currently interested in:

I suppose i have some connections since two of my football coaches have connections themselves (one being a former NFL player).

I just want to know out of the schools above which one(s) one are the best for these categories
Prestige of Business School
Alumni in industry
Job placement
Internship oppurtunities

question i want to be a sports agent as i said before does indiana offer internships with sports agencies in there sports management program. Please let me know thanks

i’ve been admitted by Indiana U and Florida State U, i want to know which one is better? in sport management program of master degree.–about teachers, curriculums, job opportunities, etc.

I was recently admitted to 6 different schools all with strong sport management programs. After visiting these schools and wanting THE most prestigious program, i chose UMass.

My decision came down to one simple aspect. I wanted the best opportunity to network as best as I could as it is the most important factor in the field of Sport Management. Anyone interested in the field, UMass is undoubtedly the best program in the country. Oh and btw, it is also the ONLY program that is in the business school and not in the school of education or kinesiology. You will be wasting your time in the kinesiology or education department unless you want to be making less money or working as a coach.

UMass is located in the business school, unlike many of the other schools which are in kinesiology or education. They have the most amount of alumni in the industry and are ranked number one when it comes to job placement for their students. UMass, easy choice for anyone serious about being successful in sport management.

Hey guys, just wanted to know which are the best colleges for Ph.D in Sports Management. I understand that UMass, Ohio, Indiana - Bloomington, Uni Florida are the good ones for Masters. Does the rank hold true for doctoral program as well?

Also UMichigan, UT Austin and UI Urbana-Champaign all have Ph.D programs in Sports Management. These Universities are better ranked than the ones mentioned above. But haven’t heard many talking about their sports program though.

Hi I am currently a student at Dowling College in Oakdale NY where I am a major in sports management. I am looking to transfer and was wondering what are the best ways to go about the sport management major. I’ve read the past posts and was wondering if its best to attend a larger school such as an FSU or UF or a school like that? or is that irrelevant to having the best possibilities in this field?

GREAT!! I just typed a long message here, only to be “timed-out” or something & lose it completely!! So here’s a very short version of it… any help would be appreciated!

(1) I’ve seen a few references in this post stating there’s a difference between Sports MANAGEMENT and Sports MARKETING programs/schools/degrees/paths/jobs. Can someone gve as much detailas possible as to what those differences are & where more can be found out about the MARKETING side & schools? The more detail the better - - I’d really appreciate it!

(2) My son lives for sports & sees Sports Management as his ideal job. He does NOT want to become an agent, however. He plays varsity tennis, although likely won’t qualify for any scholarships. He’s an A/B student in tough college-prep courses in H.S., but only taking 1 honors course each year vs multiple or AP courses, etc. A decent student, but his downfall is taking tests. We only see him as doing around “average” on the SAT/ACT tests, and is hindered on Math by the fact that he had to take Alg. 1 over, putting him behind when it comes to some of the subjects on the tests. As a result, we don’t think he’ll be able to get into most of the more prestigious Sports Management schools. Are there second-tier schools you’d recommend he go after? His biggest criteria are larger, Division 1 schools like Penn State, Syracuse, etc…

(3) My son shadowed a Temple Sports/Marketing Manager over the summer one day, and absolutely LOVED what he experienced and saw. But we’re not very fond of the campus area, or where he’d have to travel thru to commute there. Any thoughts from current/prior Temple students on their program and campus/safety, or from others who applied/toured at Temple?

First of all I would like to thank everyone who has posted as all information has been really useful. I’m from Costa Rica and just finished the IB program (think I should get around 37, hoping for a 40), always an Honour Roll Student and did my SAT last week, but a think I didn’t do that well.

If I’m getting things right, an University with a lot of Internships and with good connections to the sports world is ideal. Also, a major and then an MBA seems to be a good route to follow.

I’m strongly thinking about UMass or UMich, my counselor recommends Rice as well. What are the possiblities for International students seeking to do SM in these universities?

It looks like a really enjoyable programme to take, but my parents (and actually myself) think that it might be too risky. Do you really recommend SM? And are those universities a good option?

My son was accepted to the following schools, seeking a degree in sports management (and assuming he’ll be in for grad school for an MBA or law degree):

U Mass at Amherst

Ithaca College

University of Oregon (Waiting list–but 80-85% chance of getting in)

University of Washington

Syracuse University (waiting list–but very low chance of getting in)

This is an old thread but I’m wondering if anyone out there could give us some updated guidance on these schools and what would be the best choice for him…
