Hello everyone I am a junior in highschool and like most guys out there my dream is to one day have a successful job in professional sports, more specifically the nfl or mlb. that being said sports management would seem like the ideal major for me to take. however i am afraid that if i cannot get into the sports world that i dream of, i will have limited success elsewhere with a degree in sports management. my question is is it better for me to major in a more general business major and try getting into sports that way or should i take sports management?

Not recommended.

Not a degree that is respected in the real world.

Do something that’s challenging, like mathematical economics, engineering, computer science, etc. Get a job after college then get an MBA. Network and keep your eyes open for a job in pro sports. It’s something you need to fall into. A degree in sports management isn’t going to help you get a job in sports.

I’m a senior in a similar situation, and my plan right now is to double major in Sports Management and something in business so I’d have something to fall back on.

The fact that this is even a major in respectable universities if downright criminal. It is a joke.
