Sports recruiting

I'm interested in going to JHU and if i go i think i would like to run on the XC and Track and field teams. I believe i am fast enough to run. I went on the athletics site and there is a Prospective Student-Athlete Recruiting Questionnaire. I was wondering when i am suppsoed to send this, do i send it when i send my regular application, before that, or after i am admitted into the college?

In response to your main question, the best time to complete the Recruiting Questionnaire (<a href="http://hopkinssports.cstv.com/school-bio/jhop-recruiting.html%5B/url%5D">http://hopkinssports.cstv.com/school-bio/jhop-recruiting.html</a>) is to submit it online prior to sending in your application. The form goes directly to the coach and then the coach will decide whether they want to follow-up with you and possibly add you to their "support" list.

Outside of Lacrosse, all other sports at Hopkins are DIII so there is a recruitment process (no scholarships) as well as walk-on opportunities for most teams too.

Yeah, i would submit the questionnaire right now and hopefully the coach will get back to you within a couple weeks. If not, follow up with an e-mail and show interest. You want to do it before you send the app. in so if the coach wants to support your application you can get an application marked as an athlete.

I got one of those special applications from JHU a bunch of years ago for track and field and I was STILL too lazy to fill it out because I didn't know how good a school JHU was.

Not saying I would have attended, because I had no intention in running DIII, but make sure you get that special application from Coach Van Allen (assuming he's still the coach there). I wasn't the best track and field athlete in high school, but I would've been JHU's best sprinter and jumper, so Coach Van Allen was all over my nuts the entire recruiting process. I really wish I could go back in time and apply just to see what would have happened.

Just to prevent any confusion ... there are no "special applications" for athletes. All recruited athletes must complete the same application as the rest of the applicant pool. The online questionnaire is just an info form for students to let coaches know of their interest.

In previous years, the Admissions Office has provided coaches with copies of the JHU paper application to distribute to students they were hoping to recruit. To help track these applications when they were sent in, we would put yellow stickers or Athlete stamps on the applications. This might be what Ecliptica is speaking of as a "special application."
