I am possible interested in going to Boston College in the near future (I’m a junior in HS now) and am wondering about how important sports are in the Boston College community. I am not really into sports too much and I am kind of worried that everyone at BC is obsessed with sports, so I would have nothing to do. Any input is appreciated, from BC and non-BC students. Thanks!

Be preprared to go to every football game if you want to fit in with most of the people (although im sure you can find people who dont go to many games).

all i can tell you is that sports is what drew me to BC, if that means anything at all. I was accepted EA and WILL DEFINITELY be attending in the fall.

Not a student there, just applied myself, but just in general

There's no way EVERYONE is into sports, and the group that isn't even has a common bonding point.

Even tho I'm big on sports myself, going to a sporting event can be about pretty much everything but sports depending on how you go about it. And, seasons don't go on forever, very few people are a fan of every sport, games aren't daily. Even if sports are considered "central" as far as BC or any college, in reality only so much time is actually revolving around sports.

There is a vibrant fan base, popular sports tickets are sold on a lottery basis. There is a lot of fan activity. Lots of sports related things to do if you want. Important, certainly not, but it is something to do if you like watching decent talent and division 1. Getting an education is more important to students there and there are plenty of students that have no interest in sports.

BC has a very proud sports tradition, but not everyone here is a sports fan. There are plenty of people here that are not true sports fans (just go to the basketball games). The only prevalent sport on campus is football, and that's only 3-4 hours every Saturday. With that combined with the fact that there are over 9000 students at BC, you should be able to find students who are not passionate about sports.

There are lots of sports fans at BC and school spirit is very evident -- especially on Saturdays with home football games. That being said, there are also a large number of students there who could not care less about sports. My son (a current freshman) did not attend any football games and had no problem finding others to hang out with during the games. (They usually went into Boston on game days to avoid the crowds.) He has attended a few hockey games at BC, though -- not because he likes hockey, but because a bunch of kids from his dorm were going. He said it was fun.

So I wouldn't cross BC off your list yet. You can easily avoid sports if you want to and there will be plenty of others who feel the same way. Likewise, for those who are rabid about sports, they'll find plenty of company at BC too!

even if your not a big sports person, it shouldnt be a reason to turn BC away. and honestly, i think you would be surprised at how easily you can get into the whole fan spirit. the BC home football games are a lot of fun, trust me!!
