Sports Team Fans

How does it work?

Can you root for two teams in the same conference or is that unheard of?

I like a team in every conference but in the NBA i like both Celtics and Wizards?

Dear Spydersix,

I have no idea what the purpose or intent of this thread is, or what sort of discussion it is trying to provoke, but I will answer the direct questions:

1) It is heard of, but if you root for teams that directly compete against each other, it means you are probably a fickle fan. Ex: It is “fine” to root for the Giants and Bills, since they are in different conferences and hardly ever play each other. It is not kosher to be both a Giants fan and an Eagles fan, since they are in the same conference, the same division, and are bitter enemies. Preferably, stick to one team in all circumstances. Double fanship is born out of special circumstances and needs to be run by a panel of public opinion for it to be validated. I am on that panel.

2) Is this a question?

Don’t be so harsh on this guy. There are specific rules that need to be followed in regards to rooting for sports teams; he just wants to know what they are.

Generally, don’t have two “favorite” teams in the conference and especially the same division.

However, there are certain situations that could explain it. Like, did you originally live in the D.C. area and are going to school in Boston? Then I don’t think many people would have a problem with you liking both teams, especially because the Wizards are so bad.

Just don’t mix big rival teams together (for example, the Eagles/Giants previously posted).

Just stick to one team (who needs two teams in the same sport) and I would preferably choose the Wizards unless I have been a C’s fan since the big three came. Jumping on bandwagons is seen as unfavorable and annoying. I would personally respect someone more if they r a loyal Wizards fan even if they barely missed the playoffs. But who cares, the guys in South Beach r gonna crap on any team you put in front of them. By the way, let’s go Bobcats ; )
