S is considering his financial aid package which includes 8 to 10 hours per week of work study. He hopes to continue his baseball career at some level while at Wash U. Is it possible (or advisable) to try to handle a sport, work study, classes & still maintain some social life? Financial aid office has told me you can reduce you hours during the semester if you are overloaded but my concern is once he has committed he may try to do it all and overwhelm himself. Anyone out there been through this & can give us some advise?

One of my very good friends does work study 10h/week, varsity rowing (~20 hours/week), grades (has a 3.5 gpa), and is a sister in a sorority, so it’s definitely manageable.

I have a non-workstudy job 8h/week which I can do on top of rowing and tour guiding (I have a 3.4). Sports here are a timesink but won’t shoot you in the foot.
