Sports?

Haven't seen sports mentioned anywhere among the Case threads. Are the students at case at all interested in sports - - as athletes or fans?

Thanks.

From our family visit during football season, I would say no, as far as fans. I was honestly surprised at the number players on the football team though. Quite large for an academically oriented, D3 school.

Watched a women's soccer match too. No fans to speak of at that either even though school just built a very nice new stadium with fancy turf.

S is current freshman and not into sports at all. He seems fairly average for Case student in the sports regard.

As an athlete at Case, I can say that Case athletes are DEFINITELY interested in sports. We are a Division III school. This means that everyone is participating in sports because we want to, not because we are getting paid to. The athletes play because they love it. The athletes are a tight-knit community and very supportive. Also, about the lack of fans, the focus of Case will always be academics and not athletics. But, if you want to cheer at the games, there will always be a great group of fans to hang out with. I think that the more "academically-minded" students are starting to come out and cheer more. Case athletics are thriving, but they're not the focus of the university.

I've heard Ultimate Frisbee is popular at Case.

Case is a member of the University Athletic Association (UAA).

Which means some of their teams travel to play in NYC, Boston, Chicago, St. Louis, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, and Rochester. Mens & Womens Soccer, Mens & Womens Basketball, Baseball & Softball play everyone in the league; other sports may not play every team though.

Case has 19 varsity sports; home page is here:

I was at the football game on Parents Weekend and almost all the seats in the new stadium were filled.

Case has not been posting winning records in general, but the school offers a lot of opportunities for those who want it. 19 varsity sports is a lot of roster spots for a school of 3600.
