i'm part of this sports team and i pour my heart into it... i practice a lot and really have a great time, but i don't do so well at meets. i guess you could say i'm good enough to get on the team but not good enough to DO GOOD while on it. do you think colleges will be like "oh it doesnt matter that this kid's on this team because she sucks at meets"?

??

depends. i’d say it can go either will but honestly at the end of the day most coaches don’t recruit based on what team you play for unless your team is like top 10 nationally or something. they come and watch you play or run/swim (depending on what kind of meet you’re talking about) in your case. they won’t see you at practice so all they know about you is how you played at the meet and if it wasn’t good then i doubt they’d bother. just seems like your a little nervous come game time lol.

oh, well, i mean, i wouldn’t be applying as an athlete… that wouldn’t be the most important part of my application (definitely not!). i just wanted to know whether it would help at all generally to be on a team [my team is pretty skilled, i’m proud to say. we took third place in nyc.
still going for nationals.] but not do so well at meets (i really do get nervous come game time). would that enhance my application at all?

I’d say so…sports require time and dedication…and showcase your discipline…even if you aren’t a superstar or anything. By the way what school to you go to? I’m in NYC also

i go to stuyvesant high school. how about you?

ahh any chance you know any soccer players??..i go to poly prep by the way

goingnowherefast- what sport?

oh ive heard of poly prep… i thought that was upstate for some reason (silly me!)… hmm yeah i know some soccer players, mostly on the girls team.
jamie, amy, ella, sarah… i know this one kid named giusseppe [sp?] is/was on the boys’ soccer team. soccer’s cool, just not an uber prominent team in our school… it’s SUCH a hard sport, in my opinion. props to you for being so good at it [as per your profile].

and also, thanks for replying! :]

oh ok..cause I heard stuy has an amazing swim team, and if you were on that, i’d tell you not to worry about the skill factor..hahh. Even so, the big thing here is dedication. If you’re really dedicated to it and you love it, I think that’s what really matters (not to be cliche or anything..). Play the sport cause you like it, not for solely for college admissions.

thanks a lot, you guys.
good luck with your college admissions processes and whatnot.
