does anyone here know how sports affect chances of getting into a school like one of the HYPS or at that level. I know the Ivy’s dont give scholarships. Any info would be helpful.

Do a search on recruiting. There has been a lot of discussion about this-even recently. There is a thread on the Parents board right now discussing the purported unfairness of athlete "tips".

You have to read down some before you get to the athletic stuff.
Basically- you need to figure out if you are good enough to be recruited. Ask your coach, or if you are in a sport with times, check out the times of the current team members at the school (including their high school times). If you think you are good enough, start emailing coaches in spring of junior year-or even before. They can't contact you directly until after June following junior year, but they can respond to emails. If you are fairly good at your sport, it can help you with admissions at some of the DIII schools, too.

yes, i have already been in contact with the aforementioned schools. But they have been a little cryptic. Thanks for the link.

Be warned... they sound out a lot of letters. I got recruiting letters from HYP and didn't get recruited by any of them. What sport do you play?

Golf, i have been talking to the Penn Coach
