Sports?

Im a freshman in high school with honors and AP classes. 4.00 GPA/4.5 HPA. Frech Club and Debate Club. volunteering at a Children's science museum every weekend. But I play no school sports. I want to apply to top Ivy league schools. Is that bad that I dont play any school spors? (but i cold, i've ben swimming for years)

Forget about it. They are not looking for well-rounded students who do a little music, some sports, a few clubs, etc… They want students who are outstanding -really exceptional- at whatever it is they do.

Don’t spread yourself too thin just to satisfy some imagined ‘ideal student.’ Find what you care about and put some real effort, creativity and initiative into doing that.

Sports are absolutely not necessary. In fact, if you aren’t recruitable or highly accomplished, doing sports may only take time away from more compelling activities.

Remember that colleges are not looking for well-rounded students but for a well-rounded student body. Your best bet is to throw yourself into something like debate and become really exceptional.

Do it as long as it doesn’t detract from anything else

Do a sport if you actually like it instead of being another idiot compiling a laundry list.

actually, I find it very effective that you have a good “quantity” of stuff to list, contrary to what many say.
This is because say you do varsity swimming. The colleges have no idea if you are the worst swimmer in the team or a decent swimmer unless you are submitting data for recruit.
In same regards, if you aren’t that amazing in music, just by doing a lot of music activities, it makes you look good.
So, it definitely helps by doing many activities even though you may not be over-the-top on that activity

Maruhan2, that may be true at other schools, but not at top Ivies. You need to show distinction in whatever you do, and it’s hard to be a star in more than 2-3 activities. Being a star doesn’t mean being president and/or founder of a random club-it means doing something that really makes you stand out from all the other kids who have a list of activities of which they too are president and founder.
