Hey so this past weekend i toured the campus and it seems really great. But Im really looking for a college with great school spirit, thats really into their sports, and has a lot of students playing sports like intramurals, etc. And the tour guide said that UR hasn't had the best school spirit, but that it has been increasing because of some recent success and the new stadium.

I'd just like to know from other people's perspective on how big sports are at UR.
also i was wondering how big the frats/sororities are there as well. Thanks!

I think that this was a legitimate concern 2-4 years ago, but not so much any more. This past year, we had more than 1/2 the student body out at a football game (not sure many schools in the country can claim this), and at basketball, the students were great once conference play began. The student spirit group was largely lead by a couple of freshmen this year, and they were learning as they went and will be much more effective as they learn what works and what does not. Our basketball team was very bad when this past year’s seniors were freshmen (8-22) but our team should be strong over your career at the university. Our coach interviewed with two Big East programs but has elected to stay at UR. Our new stadium, while small, is very nice and will help continue to build on the momentum. This past year was one of the best in Spider sports history (for football and basketball).

If you ever want to discuss Spider sports, there’s a very active board at spidernation.com.

As for frats/sororities, I’ve been out long enough that things have probably changed to the point where my information may not be too valid.

thank you very much. it sounds like spider sports are becoming big
