Spot

Anyone doing a SPOT trip?

when do we hear back from that?

well, I was hoping it would be today - but I guess we have to wait till Monday. They did say July, right?

those slackers.

I'm not going to do it. I'm going to spend the time with my family before I fly off to Cali.

I am more concerned about how I will move in on my own if I do the trip. If not, my dad could fly with me to help me unpack. Any suggestions?

they're up! anyone in the first backpacking trip?

If you are concerned about actually physically getting your stuff into your room, that's not an issue. Even if you need help setting stuff up in your room that shouldn't be a problem. If you want to have you parents there when you move in just so they are around and can see what your room is like and meet your roommate and all, then having your dad fly up could make sense.

thanks, that sounds good - but my dad doesn't want to spend two whole days flying to get to see me for half a day. he's right, i just wish i didn't have to choose...

i did spot last year -- here's what i did. i flew out by myself for the backpacking trip. then my mom flew out the day before move in and she went and bought all my shampoo, fridge, etc so i wouldn't have to do it on move in day. then i hung out with her on move in day (honestly, don't feel bad about doing this -- i don't remember who i met on the first day anyway, you have plenty of time to meet people during nso) and she helped me move in, we went to convocation, she went to parent's dinner, blah blah. and then she made a vacation out of it and went napa valley-ing and san franciscoing and it was cool.

but anyway SPOT IS AMAZING. it's such a positive experience before school starts. i highly highly highly suggest that you do it. you DEFINITELY won't regret it. if you have any ?????s about spot, message me and i'll convince you to do it

i'm going on the SPOT backpacking trip... i'm thrilled! bounces up and down

is anybody staying the extra night?

i am. i wonder what dorm we're staying in

sorry, but what's spot? is it the east coast orientation thing or something else entirely?

spot's a pre-orientation backpacking trip offered for transfer students and kids from the east coast because they think they'll have a harder time adjusting. they hope to expand the program and make it available to all freshman in the next few years. (i got all that from their website. i was wondering too.)
