Spreadsheet for college choices

I have been hearing a lot about people who make spreadsheets to help with the college process. I like to see everything on paper, so I thought this might be a good idea for me.

I'd like to know, though, what did people include on their spreadsheets? Acceptance rate? Location?

In essence, how did you make a spreadsheet that worked for you, or how could you have made a better spreadsheet?

I did it for all 4 of my kids, some things that were included:

SAT/Scores-50th Percentile
Number of students
Male, Female Percentages
Housing for all 4 years?
Application Deadline
Notification Date
FAFSA Deadline Date
CSS PROFILE DEADLINE Date
Interview Required? Deadline?
Tax Returns Due by when?

SAT Scores Sent: List Dates

I made one, for each school:

its app deadline,
if it uses the common app,
school requirements (SAT only? SAT subject tests? recommendations? etc.),
app cost,
decisions mailed by,
likelihood (target, reach, match and % from **************.com haha),
total approx. cost to attend,
whether their Education program is good (since I’m a prospective teacher),
and additional comments

Hope this helped! :D

Yeah, I made that too.

App due date, scholarship app due date, essay question, what app you can use, location, size, type of school, tuition/room/board/fees, AP scores accepted, acceptance rate, admission requirements, quality of program, undergrad only vs uni with grad students, LAC or regular university, type of music program (school of music vs music department), students’ ACT/SAT/GPA averages, profs with terminal degree, grad rates (4& 6-year rates), distance from home, which music prof I’d have for lessons (I’m a piano major), decision by date, FA form deadlines, average class size, student-faculty ratio, special classes offered for music majors compared to the other, how many gen ed requirements I’d have to take after AP credits factored in, city size and info, retention rate, # and percentage of music majors, % of students involved in music as non-majors, in-state vs out-of-state enrollment, plus other things I can’t remember right now

I use a google Docs Spreadsheet that I’m VERY attached to - easy to update and such, but like you, I have a printed version as well. It basically looks like this:

Name | Average SAT score | Programs/Majors of Interest | Location |

Those are the only things on there for me because those are really important factors for me; cater your spreadsheet to fit your needs. I recommend one though, very useful from my experience! :)

It’s pretty much way too big and unwieldy already, and my son’s only a rising sophomore. I think my next revision will be to split out undergrad enrollment and total enrollment.

It’s a Google Docs too.
