Spreadsheets

Confession- I am lousy with Excel. But I am giving it a go to help D create a college spreadsheet.

I'm thinking that the spreadsheet for kids auditioning for theater programs is going go look different from other kids' spreadsheets. Those of you doing spreadsheets, what columns do you have?

This is what we have so far:
Name, address, CA or not, username/password (figured this one out after D kept forgetting them!), degree type, deadline (EA/ RD, or rolling), test requirements, audition or not, audition requirements.

I am sure there are lots more that would be useful.

There’s really too much to the process to fit it all on 1 spread sheet ;). We kind of broke down into multiple phases and had a spread sheet for each phase: general investigation of schools, focused investigation of the program, the application process, the audition process, a spread sheet for the guidance counselor with critical due dates for each school, and at the end, a detailed school/program comparison spread sheet for acceptances to assist in final decisions. My daughter also had separate audition binders for each school containing copies of app and essays, school and program info, audition info, audition pieces, head shots and resumes, so she could just grab the right binder, her audition go bag and hit the road. It was a bit nuts but the effort to keep hyper organized actually took a lot of stress out of the process.

I haven’t done Excel (yet) but my list also has where and when the school has auditions. Another question is whether the app has to be in before the audition can be scheduled, and I guess we’ll have a box that says “audition scheduled yes/no” and then the date. I have whether the school was at Unifieds or not, and whether they accept a taped audition.

My D trying to use the same username/password everywhere as much as possible and did follow the CC advice of starting a new e-mail just for applications, which I can access. But already she has one that’s different, a priority app that assigned her a name; at least she used the same password. I have now put that category on the list, too.

I definitely like the binder idea and we will move to that when we’re at the next phase. I’m a big fan of the “already packed bag” - it’s ready all the time so just grab it. This will definitely be helpful for auditions. Thank you for the list, MnK.

Thanks! Great ideas! Yes, multiple spreadsheets it is, as challenged as I am. We have already had an evolution from the looking at schools spreadsheet to the applying to schools spreadsheet. And a separate auditions spreadsheet makes sense.

And I can only hope she will get so lucky as to have schools to compare in the end.

MnK - Love the audition binder idea. Very important for boys especially.

Here’s what’s on my spreadsheet:
School Name
Application Fee
SAT (y/n)
Subject Tests (y/n)
Degree
EA/RD Deadlines
Recommendations (y/n)
No. Teacher
GC Rec
Theater Rec
Auditions Dates available
Apply first?
Audition Fee
Confirmed Audition Date and Time
Application Submitted (Can’t wait to fill this one out!)

Fantastic!
