Spring 09: what to go for in phase 1

Hello all, i am a freshman bioe major, probably going to minor in computer science if I can pull it off. berkeley recommends the following for my spring semester

Math 1B
Physics 7A
Chem 3A
Chem 3AL
CS 61A

yea it sucks. which classes should i go for in phase 1, aka which if any will fill up the fastest. thanks for the help.

you know, that is one helluva load...just because "berkeley recommends" doesnt mean you have to take all of them in the SAME semester...that looks like it would kill you!!!

how many units is that?

looks to me like 17 units correct? that's actually not that bad of a load. It's just that those classes combined makes it more of a difficult load. I would recommend signing up for chem and physics first. But I don't really know anything about CS 61A...if that's a hard class to get into or not.

Phase 1 =
Chem 3A*L*
Physics 7A
and either Math 1B or CS 61A

Phase 2 =
Chem 3A
and either CS 61A or Math 1B

One of my floormates is an EECS major taking Physics 7A, Math 54, Rhetoric R1A, and CompSci 61A. He says that CompSci 61A takes up more time than the rest of his classes combined. Keep that in mind when deciding your schedule.

You're asking for pain next semester. BioE is an already hard enough major, and CS minors ad up quite a bit.

That course load isn't impossible, but you're not going to be seeing the light of day too much. OChem 1B are both tough enough without adding the workload of 61A to it. This does depend on your background in these subjects; if you've covered 1B and 7A's material before and you've a fair share of programming, then you'll be able to survive with a bit more sanity. It's up to you, but if you're expecting above a 3.5, good luck.

^That is close enough to standard freshman spring schedule as you can get for BioE.

OP your schedule is fine. BioE uds give out really high grades I hear, so if you stick with it and your GPA falls it will rise back up junior and senior year
