spring 2008 admittance

Do spring admitees get the same big package as regular admitees?

They are supposed to be need-blind. So, unless they are lying, it shouldn't have anything to do with financial aid.

it was in a big envelope, but I was surprised because it was plain white with a big yellow band across the bottom...thought I heard regular was maroon and gold envelope. all it had on it was the return address for SC. it felt lighter than other big envelopes we've rec'd

it didn't have that much in it-- a letter, a nice certificate of admittance and two pieces of literature (one about spring 08, the other about housing which was generic ie some info in it was not applicable to spring admits), all in a nice burgundy and gold folder

The fall admit packages are white with a big yellow band on the bottom too and it sounds like they have the same contents.

Did any Spring admits get any scholarships?
Also, can any of you log onto the RSVP site for the upcomin admitted students events?
I thought it said in the admissions packet that you could attend these, but my d can't log on to RSVP

WOO, I just got my Spring 08 admit Thursday - I too was super psyched until I saw "Spring 2008", and I too went through the confused, then bitter, then content stages. I decided I love USC too much to let pride get in the way!

I have a couple questions, though:
1) It sounds like housing is the biggest problem for "Springlets", and that most end up in Apartments - what are the downsides to that? Are they more expensive/inconvenient?

2) NOOOO! TROJAN FOOTBALL SEASON! I'm thinking of going to UCI for the fall, which is as close as I can get to USC, and getting a season pass. Is it worth it, or do I have other options?

My other options for the fall are Berkeley (great school, super close to home and lots of my friends are going) or UCSD. By the way, I'd be going to Annenberg, too, for Public Relations in Spring... I think someone mentioned they were in the same boat.
MAN, this place makes me feel a lot better :)

I would be thinking Berkeley because it is on the semester system and so is USC....quarter units transfer funny sometimes....

are you allowed to do that?...to attend another university for the fall and then attend USC in the spring?

miss blue sky, I'm pretty sure you can. I called an admissions counselor for USC the day I got the Spring Admit, and he said plenty of people have transferred from Berkeley to USC. I'm just afraid of the complications arising fron transferring credits, getting comfortable in one place, etc. :/
The idea of going to a community college for the fall when I got into other UC's just rubs me the wrong way, for some reason...

I would definetly not do the communities...you have a chance to get some Cal credits and say you went there....you might even decide you like it and come back for graduate school or who knows what....it's a win win...go for it!

just if you plan on attending a university prior to usc in the spring, talk to an admissions counselor at USC to make sure everything is set up to transfer and you're taking appropriate courses for your major.

and of course, be advised that transfer courses can affect your GPA...

You guys. Are so freaking great. Why didn't I find this place before, during all my other college freakouts?!
I'm gonna be stalking that same admissions counselor I talked to about Cal to make sure it all works out. At least I can enjoy Cal football season, WOO BEARS! Jbusc, does transfer classes affect GPA the same way summer school affects high school GPA (where it lowers it by this super tiny decimal that happens to sabotage class rank)?
Thanks for all the advice so far, keep it coming!

i think transfer credits from Cal would not be bad thing ever...it's gonna be GPA to GPA I would think cause Cal credits are going to be strong....as long as the courses are similar...check with your counselor but you've got it made i think.

chappa (and to all others wondering about credits and whether they transfer),
USC HIGHLY recommends taking classes at community college because that's where you can SAVE money, and find the most courses to transfer over to USC. alot of courses @ UC's and CSU's DON"T transfer over, so i advise not going somewhere else in the fall.
consult articulation agreements for whichever college you attend in the fall.
go to:
www.usc.edu/articulation

plus, if you go somewhere else in the fall (UC, CSU) and get too attached, you'll be unhappy at USC. i know kids who've had to deal with that..which is unfortunate. going to comm college is easiest (academically and financially). i know it's potentially embarassing/ a hit to the ego, but for 3 to 4 months? it's not a big deal. plus if you want to make extra money in the fall, you can work while attending classes, that way you won't be broke when you get to USC :)

oh, and about apartments. you'll find them to be MUCH roomier than the dorms. it's quite the upgrade :) you have the freedom to bring a little more with you that way

kkgirl - Thanks for the heads-up! Haha, how you described potential feelings towards community colleges is exactly how I feel... I wasn't expecting attending one at all! But I'll have to consider it, definitely, and consult the USC articulation office.
Last time I talked to an admissions counselor at USC, he said I could spend the semester at Berkeley, and if I feel like I'd want to stay, I could. I can't imagine being unhappy at USC, though! :

hey bernalittlebit...you said Berkeley was nearby so it's amost like a community college for you except you get a much better t-shirt you can wear the rest of your life :)

I got accepted to the Spring '08 semester for Annenberg. I'm with the others, really happy when i saw the letter, then a big :( when i saw the Spring '08. I must say though, some USC is better than none.

what about if you think you like Cal better, but you take the USC spring thing as a back-up, then if you don't like Cal you go to USC?
would that work?
this is my d's situation
nothing against USC, more of a money issue

did any of the spring admitees got their financial aid package yet?

no- they asked us for some additinal info/documentation; but I was holding off becuase my d is leaning towards Cal
