Levine decided to use the new Haas curve :(. Anyone have success in this class? What were your midterm and final exam grades?

Wasn’t the grading scheme was outlined in the syllabus?

After LS 147, this was the second worst class I’ve taken here at Berkeley. Even math 1b was more enjoyable.

No, the grading curve was not outlined in the syllabus. I tried asking him about the grade distribution after the midterm and he brushed me off.

southern, what made this class so unenjoyable for you?

BUMPPPP
ratemyprof ranks him terribly…

Wait, I thought once you get into Haas it’s suppose to be easy?

Haas curve:
5% A
10% A-
75% Bs of some kind
10% C or lower

ouch 10char

I’m sorry to hijack a thread, and you guys can ignore if you want, but is Haas really worth going into? Although I did well i UGBA 10, I really disliked the competition and atmosphere. Is it going to be like that in all classes of Haas? Do the connections and job opportunity outweigh the classes you put up with?

Hmm. Most classes aren’t very UGBA 10 like, but most people are UGBA 10 like. So if you don’t like that, Econ is a very comparable major.

I’ve found that Econ classes are easier to get an A in, in my experience (I’ve taken an equal amount of UGBA and Econ classes) :)

I think the major is worth it in prestige. In addition, the school does a great job grooming you on crafting a good resume and interviewing with companies. Plus, a lot of the students get great positions which helps motivate you to do better.

The really tough curve and competition only apply to a few classes (a strict 15% isn’t applied to all classes; some grant up to 30-40% As if there’s a curve). There are some Haas folks who are genuine and don’t care too much about competing; those are the kinds of friends I make at Haas. You just have to check ratemyprof to avoid the classes with bad curves. Some profs are really great with giving you what you deserve, ex: 105 with Schroth.
