Heyhey! I was wondering if anyone had any advice about what I'm planning to take next year (i'm a first year):

Physics 1B
Com Sci 31
Math 32A
Physics 4AL

I was wondering if it would be a good idea or not to take physics 4AL. is it time consuming? because i heard com sci is going to take up a lot of work and i don't want to kill myself spring quarter

What major are you? If you can program, 31 isn’t a problem. If you can’t program, 31 is a problem and you might as well take it now while the other workloads are relatively light.

Math 32A is a cakewalk, IMO. 32B is worse.

Physics 1B was irritating for me because I suck at physics. Looking back, not all that difficult.

4BL is alright. 3 hour labs each week and probably 3-5 hours of extra work on them outside the lab. Don’t kill yourself over it though, it is only 2 units.

IMO get the labs out of the way as soon as possible, they’re not hard they’re basically just busy work. They fill up insanely fast though, so if you can ever get a spot in one I say take it and get it done with.

If you are not a hard worker, I suggest taking 4AL in the summer. 4AL along with a physics or math class is reasonable for a summer session.

For 4AL, I spent about 5-6 hours (~8-10 pages) outside class writing the reports and reading about theory corresponding to the labs. I spent about 10-12 hours per week writing reports (10-25 pages) for 4BL.

And btw since you’re MECH, fyi you will need to write longer reports in the future. Once I wrote 72 pages in one week for MAE 157!
