Schedule of Classes - Spring 2010: Office of the Registrar: Indiana University Bloomington

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, it looks like all the classes I need to take have bad teachers in terms of grade distribution and ratemyprofessor.com.

How do you find the grade distribution?

Here is the grade distribution.

That reminds me–for anyone who needs to take Spring I-Core in the Business school, the application is due by this coming Thursday (October 15th).

The application can be found here:

[I-core Application Information: Forms and Applications: Undergraduate Program: Kelley School of Business: Indiana University Bloomington](<a href=“Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley”>Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley)

Does your advisor help with all this I-core stuff? We are touring Kelley Monday and hope to get some of this information. My S has been accepted to Kelley as a DA. He is thrilled! All of this Grade Distribution and RateMyProfessor information on CC is a bit overwhelming.

You probably mean what is up with all the I-Core prerequisites (I-core itself is very straightforward; five classes in a single semester; usually the first semester of the junior year). There are 15 I-Core prerequisites:

ENG-W 131
BUS-X 104
BUS-X 204
MATH-M 118
MATH-M 119
ECON-E 201
BUS-G 202
ECON-E 370
BUS-A 100
BUS-A 201
BUS-A 202
BUS-L 201
BUS-K 201
BUS-X 201
BUS-X 220

Since your son is a direct admit, he can take a lot of these at community college in the summer and transfer them to IU without worrying about how they will affect his admissions status. A lot of these classes are very hard on the overall gpa and make for a very hectic schedule if you take them all at IU along with your general education requirements. If some of them are taken at a cc and transferred, the cc grade will not be figured into the IU gpa. And you only need a “C” for these classes to transfer to IU. Check this site to see if your local cc’s credits transfer to IU. [Credit Transfer Service: Admissions: Indiana University](http://cts.admissions.indiana.edu/)

The following classes typically have equivalents that transfer from community colleges.
ENG-W 131 english composition
BUS-X 104 speech
MATH-M 118 finite (a lot of cc’s don’t offer it, though)
MATH-M 119 calculus 1
ECON-E 201 microeconomics
BUS-L 201 business law

The introductory accounting classes A201 and A202 will also transfer from a lot of cc’s, but not on a one-to-one basis from the Ivy Tech cc system in Indiana.

Also, if your son received the ssa, have him join the Hutton Honors College. This will give him access to small classes that tend to grade easily in both the College of Arts and Sciences and Kelley (honors versions of K201, X201, X104, X204, A201, A202).

patio,

If your son is a DA (direct admit) to the business school, then, yes, he will get great advice from his Kelley advisor. For those who are not direct admit, but who go into “university status” as business majors, then the advisor is helpful, but not always as knowledgeable as the ones that the DA students get.

This also applies to those who are DA to schools besides business. Generally the DA students get advisors who are specifically knowledgeable about the courses required to graduate from the school of the “major”, wheras general advisors are familiar with the university graduation requirements, but sometimes not as familiar with all of the separate departmental graduation requirements–or the proper order to take courses.

P.S. I understand that IU-B has been trying to improve the quality of the advising–based largely upon complaints on this board in years past. My understading is that it has improved, but that the “departmental” advisors are still more knowledgeable than the “general” advisors.

Thanks Bthomp1!

We had our tour Monday at Kelley! Campus was gorgeous. I can’t believe I remembered a lot about navigating the campus from our tour in March. We received a warm welcome and a good amount of information. The counselor giving the talk recommended possibly taking classes at CC after freshman year. My son seemed to love it. Thanks to Bthomp1 and Calcruzer for all the advise. I’m sure we will be looking for more advise closer to choosing classes. Patio

My freshman son is looking for a course recommendation for spring. He is undecided for his major but enjoys film a lot so has taken the first CMCL class and is taking TEL Design and Prod next semester. But he loved his humanities class in h.s. and wants to explore one of the sciences, history or something like anthropology… Looking at the spring offerings, does anyone familiar w/the professors and curriculum see anything that looks appealing?
