Still didn’t hear from BU as of today…does anyone knows when BU admission office will be off from the christmas holiday? Should I make them a call?

Good job,guys!
I also got in. Now, I was wondering what should I do next when I receive the paper form?
Could someone help me in choosing dorm for freshman?

Thanks in advance.

I’m a BU Junior. I can tell you what I know about the dorms. Warren is probably one of the biggest dorms. The pros is that it’s across the street from CAS and has a dining hall. If you’re looking to make friends, it’s a very social dorm. However, it can get a little noisy since it’s mostly Freshman. The doors are poorly lit so you should bring a desk lamp. You also share the bathroom with your floor.

Towers is like Warren but farther from CAS. It’s maybe a five minute walk from CAS, but it’s closer to SMG and Sargant. Towers is a bit quieter than Warren. It also has a dining hall. The rooms are set up like Warren’s rooms too. Towers is behind 575 Commonwealth.

575 Commonwealth is where I live. It used to be a Howard Johnson so it’s called Hojo by everyone. Usually you get charged extra for having a private bathroom but Hojo does not cost extra. Most likely you’ll end up in a triple. The second floor has doubles and singles and the seventh floor has a couple singles. Most of those are taken by upperclassman, though. The 7th floor has the biggest rooms. The beds are lofted and your desk fits underneath your bed. There is one closet and two wardrobes per room. Unlike most dorms, Hojo has A/C. It also has a study lounge with a beautiful view of the Charles and a nice shot of Fenway. You can see straight into the stadium. 575 has no dining hall but it does have a cafe that opens in the mornings and nights.

West campus is kind of far off from central and east campus so you’re far off from CAS, SMG, Sargant, etc. But you’re close to CFA, CGS, and the gym. From what I hear, West has a better dining hall than most other dorms. The rooms pretty much look like what you’d find in Towers or Warren. If you get a handicapped room, it’s much better than regular rooms.

As a Freshman, you’re not required to apply for specialty housing. That means you can ask to be put in a brownstone. After the upperclassman get their pick of the brownstones, they fill any empty slots with freshman even if it’s a house that doesn’t apply to you. For instance, you might get put into the Classics House despite not being a Classics major. Of course, you might not get in next year since you’re not a Classics major. To stay in the same brownstone you have to keep re-applying every year. But as a Freshman you don’t need to apply, you can just ask to be put in there.

By the way, make sure you look at the prices before deciding on a dorm. For instance, living at 575 Comm, Warren, Towers, or the brownstones costs the same if you ask for a double, triple, quad. However, living in a suite such as in Shelton will cost you more. If you ask to live in a single, that will cost you more. If you ask for a private bathroom, that’s an extra charge. The prices are all listed on the BU website.

My sister got 12,150 (for Spring) in financial aid, but that’s still too little for us to let her go. Did anyone else get more?
