I'm just curious to see if there are any other GS Spring '11 applicants here. I finally submitted all of my application materials and now it is just a waiting game. Best of luck to any other applicants. To the few current (and informative!) GS students on this board, I hope to see you come January!

I’ve applied. Admissions material has been in for awhile, but I’ve got to take the GSAE in a couple of days to make it complete. I was told that I’ll still be eligible for ED, so I guess I’ll hear something by mid-November.

Anyway, good luck M.C. Hope to see you in January.

Good luck on the GSAE boolaboola. I sat for the exam today and found it to be pretty simple. Fingers crossed…

Lol.

I sat for the exam today too. Who were you?

Me: tie, blazer, kept getting mistaken for the proctor…

That’s hilarious. I only recall one person in a tie and blazer, which means I was sitting next to you, lol. I was in a black sweater vest and plaid shirt. I started off further down the table but moved shortly before the exam started because I was baking in the sun.

Again, best of luck to you. I hope that we both hear good news shortly.

Oh, ok! Yeah, you were on my left. We had a laugh about the possibility of sunburn.

Good luck, hope you’ll keep us all posted. Did you apply ED?

I’ll certainly post my admissions status once I receive notification.

No, I didn’t quite make the ED deadline. All of my transcripts, etc., had long since been sent but I was so unbelievably busy throughout September that I didn’t end up submitting Section II of the app until Oct. 11. Honestly, I probably spent too much time obsessing over my essay. GS allows for such a considerable amount of writing that I obviously wanted it to be perfect, compelling, what have you. And I still came in a bit over – 2,400 words or thereabouts. It is my hope that they aren’t terribly perturbed by that lack of adherence to direction.

I’m also hoping that my 10-day miss of the ED deadline doesn’t mean that I’ll be waiting around until mid-to-late December for a response. Ah, but at least I’ll have the joy of anticipation every time I open the mailbox.

hi everybody!
I’m a GS Spring 2011 applicant too:)
Being an international student, I had to submit my applicationmaterials in August but I haven’t received any news yet!

Good luck to you all!

Greetings giuli! In starting this thread I had hopes of finding a number of Spring applicants so that we could weather the inevitable waiting game together. So thank you for your reply! Indeed, it sounds as though you have already been doing your fair share of waiting.

Best of luck to you! Keep us posted, should you hear anything.

When did you guys submit your applications?

My admission materials have been in for like six weeks and I still haven’t heard anything from Columbia offices…as you can imagine, I’m kinda worried…

Did you have to take the GSAE? how was it?

I’m so glad I found this thread.I actually thought I was the only one applying for the Spring Semester:)

My application was not completely submitted until last week, October 11 to be precise. And yes, I took the GSAE last Saturday. My SAT scores are older then 8 years so the GSAE was required. To be honest with you (and with apologies to anyone who may have felt otherwise) it was incredibly simple. It covered the most basic of reading comprehension and contextual interpretation/critical reasoning. Plus, the essay section is given a full hour which is a very generous amount of time.

After 6 weeks I can understand your nervousness. I know that GS claims to process admissions decisions on a rolling basis, generally within 4-6 weeks. However, they have also mentioned that Spring decisions only start going out in October. Given both criteria, I’d still say your time has come!

I hope you’re right! I’ve had enough of this waiting game. Anyway, I’m well aware that it might take a little longer to review an international student’s application, so my time might not have come yet…I’ll keep you posted.

And again, good luck!

Welcome, Giuli–

My application has been in since last month, though I took the GSAE w/ M.C. this past Saturday. It was as he described: basic reading comp/contextual interpretation and an hour to write an essay. Number two pencils abound and a street fair out on Broadway afterwards.

I don’t think they start rolling out decisions until October at the earliest, so I’m guessing you’re in good shape. Hope to see you in January!

M.C…has the GSAE shown up under the ‘tests’ section of your application status yet? I’m still waiting…Hoping I pencilled in the bubbles dark enough.

Fear not BB. Or fear less, perhaps. My GSAE has not shown up yet either. And I am certain that we were, in fact, present and accounted for. How often can I possibly refresh that page?

LMAO…yeah, I’ve spent quite a bit of time looking at that page today. As soon as I left the test I started thinking, “Hmmm, that seemed really easy. Did I do the correct sections?” This in spite of the fact that I neurotically checked the numbers and pages on the answer sheet and test booklet at least three times throughout the course of filling in those damned bubbles…Maybe tomorrow they’ll show up.

Lol. I know. I figure I’ll give it a couple days before getting in contact with someone.

I might need to double-check on my transcripts as well. They aren’t showing up as processed but they were requested quite some time ago, my checks to the issuing institutions for transcript fees were all cashed, and the registrars all confirmed to me that they were sent.

Perhaps because my profile in the CU application tracking system is so new (app not fully submitted until last week, CUID number not sent to me until yesterday) the items received long before my application won’t become “attached” to it quite yet.

I’ll just keep refreshing!

Fear not! When I applied last Spring, that page did not reflect that I had taken the GSAE until after I was accepted.

Sigh. Thanks for the info AMorrison.

That just makes me more nervous! WHY, COLUMBIA, WHY???
