I was admitted and attending UF as a Freshman for the Spring 2012 term (Jan. 9th). I didn't attend a College or CC to transfer credits, I am just working now.

After the Spring Term is over, do you have to attend all summer sessions? There is a Summer C, right (kind of confused on that since it says A/C on the site?) Like am I allowed to do Summer A and C, and skip B?

I was only concerned because I had a planned vacation on "July 12-15 2012" (or I would it be possible missing 2 or 3 days?), and don't want it to interfere with classes or I'd definitely attend all Summer Sessions.

I know this is VERY far away, but I want to think ahead lol.

OP-
I hope that your original question was answered to your satisfaction and if you would be so kind, Id appreciate an answer to your original post.
How did you get accepted as a true freshman for spring term 2012 ?
I was under the impression that UF doesnt permit true freshman from starting during the spring term ?
Thanks !

I can answer that one cnmpsyd. Last year (and I think the year before as well), UF offered some applicants Spring 2012 admission (they had applied for either summer or fall but were only offered to start in spring). These kids had the option of starting Freshman year in spring and going to community college or working for Fall term. This is enrollment management. They had too many applicants and there is always a percentage of Freshman who either change their mind and don’t matriculate or matriculate and drop out or transfer (grades, adjustment issues, money problems etc).

Many other schools do this. I know of at least 3 kids who went to Wash. U. St. Louis on the “January Program”.

The “official” links are probably now all gone since they have a NEW program for the 2012 High school graduates called Innovation Academy. This program is an expansion of the attempt to decrease crowding at UF and increase capacity (during spring and summer) by having another semester plan.

To learn about innovation academy, an option for the class of 2012 check this out:

In the past, some of the kids who did not get in for summer or fall but were offered the spring admit appealed to have their entry semester changed. From the looks of this forum (CC), about 2 out of 3 kids got their admission semesters changed to Fall or summer from spring (but that is just a guess). You can go back and look through all the UF admissions threads here and find out about spring admission but as I said, I don’t think that it is now an option. NOW, they are looking for volunteers for innovation academy.

I don’t believe there is an option for Freshman to “apply” for Spring semester entry. In fact UF looks at the entire applicant pool as a whole despite the term the applicants indicate on their application. Then they accept the applicants to terms generally with the highest qualifed accepted to Fall, next to Summer and last to Spring.

My daughter was accepted to Spring 2010 after applying for Summer 2009. I believe there were 400 freshmen accepted to Spring that year. She was successful in applying for a term change and ended up starting in Summer 2009.

Many people end up applying for a term change for various reasons. UF had been very good about granting the term changes in the past, but it sounds like this last year not as many were granted.

tzais - click on my link above. The spring option is NEW this year. There have been a few threads about it here. It was an option to check off on my son’s UF application (that he submitted last month).

I cannot imagine that it is going to be very popular though. Who wants to ALWAYS miss the Fall semester. This option makes you take all your classes spring and summer for all four years. You are allowed to participate in other things during Fall though, I read somewhere that IA kids can go to football games etc.

Good information Seiclan. I agree I wouldn’t believe it would be too popular unless people think it may increase their chances of being accepted.

Well this year (2011) was a very different situation. Do to over-crowding this year (more people enrolled than they anticipated), UF did not accept any term changes from Spring to Fall, or Spring to Summer. The first time this ever happened.

If you look at all the term change threads from this year, you will see none were accepted despite the reason why. I even called UF to confirm this information.

I think this may be why they are starting the Innovation Academy.

I feel super lucky though. I missed that program and get to attend Fall for the next three years. What a relief!

I seriously didn’t mind waiting. I’ve done some traveling recently (Very fun experience) and now working.

I was accepted to FSU Fall and UMiami for Fall, and didn’t go there because I’m a UF’y at heart. Which makes me wonder why I wasn’t accepted to Summer or Fall if I got into FSU and UMiami for Fall.

Also, I found out I don’t need to do both this summer after calling UF today. I just have time to make up a certain amount of credit hours by the time I graduate. :)

Son also admitted as Spring 2012 freshman. Not only do you miss out on the excitement of fall, there is no on campus housing and you get to register for classes after everybody else. So far, they are making us feel second best. Would strongly recommend not going the Spring start route.
