Spring 2013 Classes

Do you guys know what you're going to take next semester? My school just put out the class list for next semester today, so naturally I looked at it and tried to figure out what I want to take.

I'm planning on taking:

ENG - Major Authors: Orwell
PSY - Childhood Disorders
PSY - The Psychology of Disabilities
ANT - World Cultures

I have to take a course on a major author as part of my school's core curriculum, and Orwell is by far the best author on the list (the only other decent author is Shakespeare), and, the professor is awesome...I had him for my sophomore ENG class and I loved him!

I'm a psych major which explains the psych classes...and I want to work with children, probably as an occupational therapist, so childhood disorders and the psych of disabilities will most likely be a good knowledge base for what I want to do for my career.

And the anthropology class...well, it'll either count as a social science (depending on whether or not I get credit for the education class I took last fall at my local community college), or as a free elective, and I need both of those...plus I like learning about other cultures, and it's a 100-level class so it should be pretty easy.

If I get everything I want, my schedule will be:

MWF:

ANT 12:30-1:20

TTH:

ENG 8:30-9:45
PSY 10-11:15
PSY 5:30-8:30 (TH only)

Pretty awesome if you ask me since I'll only have 1 class on Friday. I wanted to have no classes on Friday, but unless I added another TTH class that wouldn't be an option, and I definitely don't want another TTH class!!

Bumpity bump bump.

This feels like a blog post. You should maybe make a blog (but don’t link it here cuz it’s not allowed).

These types of threads are normal for CC.

Classes for the next quarter are not out yet for me. The only class that I’m pretty sure that I’m going to take is biochemistry.

We are on the quarter system, so I don’t know my spring classes yet. My planned “winter” classes are as follows:

MAT 381 - Mathematics of Operations Research II : Not excited. Professor isn’t as smart as I thought she was and not as great as people told me she was as a lecturer. “She is the best!” There are plenty of people in my 380 class that are idiots that ask stupid questions and it wastes class time. I am probably going to see them again.
MAT 431 - Partial Differential Equations: Slightly intrigued. I have heard that this was a hard class. I wonder how it’ll be, but I am not looking forward to it that much.
STA 341- Applied Statistics: Not excited in the least. It’ll be with the same professor I have for STA 241 - Applied Probability Theory. Somehow I find probability boring but interesting at the same time. The material is okay, the teacher puts people to sleep. I keep thinking about the applications of it to quantum mechanics.
PLS 201 - Introduction to American Government: Pretty excited. I love critical thinking and like when a teacher encourages active discussion and presents interesting topics.

I don’t sound like I’m having a good time in my major (applied math) mostly because I realized I am in the wrong major. I want to be a physics major, but I must graduate in two years if at all possible. I am trying to complete a physics minor along the way. My passion is for astronomy/astrophysics. They put their courses in a sequence, so I’d have to wait another year to be able to take the classes I need to finish a physics major. So, that’s a bummer.

I really hope I can get into the last class Samuel Pickering is teaching next semester. He was the person who inspired the John Keating character in Dead Poets Society. He’s retiring soon and there are only 19 spots in his class so I’m hoping it’s possible.

Other than that,
Intermediate Macroeconomics Theory
Intermediate Microeconomics Theory - IDK if this is a good idea, doing them both in one semester but I want to get them over with.
ENGL - Ethnic Lit in U.S.
Film class - gen ed
Philosophy for my last gen ed or another Creative Writing class

Decisions, decisions

^ That Eng class, Ethic Lit sounds like it would be good!

We registered for class last spring but the only one I’m set on is my senior seminar for one of my degrees:
RCAH 492- God and the Environment (Philosophy class)

Then one of:
ANP 370 Culture, Health, and Illness
PHL 344 Ethical Issues in Health Care
HST 425 American and European Health Care since 1800
SOC 475 Sociology of Health Care Systems

Then two online classes. Maybe ACC 230 (Survey of Accounting Concepts)? Don’t know.

It’s my last semester of undergrad and I’m determined to have my first two day “weekend” (Fridays and Saturdays off) in my undergrad career. That’s why my schedule is so scant.

^ Wait, you’re taking 7 classes?!? That’s insane!!

Most likely:
CHM262: Organic Chemistry 2
CHM264: Organic Chemistry Lab 2
CHE211: Thermodynamics
CHE306: Statistical Modeling for ChemE
MA262: Linear Algebra/Diff Eq
Another 15 credit semester, not too awful.

SRDL, read it again. I’m only taking four. I’m only taking one class off that list of four, I’m just not sure which one.

College Physics I / Lab / Recitation
Genetics and Recitation
Statistics (online)

13 credit hours. I should squeeze in another class for my major (biology) but I’ve learned my lesson with taking too many classes and working this semester. Stupid labs

romanigypsyeyes - Ohh…ha. Sometimes I can’t read. Four is totally acceptable. That’s what I’m doing as well until I graduate. If I took 6 a semester I would graduate next December instead of next May, but I would rather take less classes and longer to graduate so I actually get decent grades.

I think six is the most I’ve taken. Four has become more common because of financial issues.

This coming semester is my last semester. I plan on taking

Choir
Voice lessons
Honors Symposium
Shakespeare
Religion and Contemporary Global Literature (it’s an honors seminar, we get to read the Satanic Verses, which should be interesting)
Literature at the Movies (we’ll be writing a screenplay for this class)
Bach: Music, Faith, and Reason (seminar cross-listed with the music dept.)

I’m sad I won’t be taking any psychology courses (I’m a music major psych minor), but the only ones available cut into choir, and I’d rather not have to fill out forms to deal with that.

I’m literally so excited for the Spring 2013 courses to go up on the website on Monday. I LOVE choosing classes. Definitely one of the best differences between high school and college.

^That religion and contemporary global lit one sounds really interesting. I’m considering a minor in religious studies but we don’t have many classes like that one.

^ Yeah, I love looking at courses and course combinations.

I really hope that I’m allowed to take the Psych of Disabilities class…on the sheet I have that has all the course requirements it says that you need to be a senior to take that class, and I’m only a junior by credits (senior by entry date though)…I’ve never seen it offered before, so I have no confidence that it’ll be offered again before I graduate…and it sounds super interesting and will probably be useful in my career!!

That religion class is something I’m taking to fulfill honors college requirements for scholar distinction. We have to take two honors seminars of our choosing, and this looked really cool. Plus I’ve had the professor teaching it before for a class called “The Devil and The Problem of Evil”, and he’s a great teacher.

I love picking classes and making my schedule too!

Clarinette, so jealous of your screenwriting class! I wish they still offered that class here at my school. The last time it was offered was in 2005. :(

Totally have no idea about my schedule, still have to talk to an advisor since I just recently transferred:)

Major: History & Earth Systems Science

MWF: Math 112 12:45-1:40 p.m.
General Chemistry I (MW only): 5:30-6:50

T/TH: Climate & Global Change (Lab Friday 9:10-11:10 am) 12:45-2:05
Historical Methods 2:20-3:40
Early Middle Ages/Western Europe: 3:55-5:15

Keeping my fingers crossed:)
