@emart95 should I be worried that I dont have those fees in my account?

@mmhh789 To be completely honest, I don’t know. I would not worry. Considering you are an international student, they may have just included the fees in your tuition. The fees include a technology fee, a recreation and athletics fee, a student account fee, and a services fee (nothing outrageously expensive, ranging between $5-$50). My issue is that they’ve listed them several times on my billing statement and I cannot figure out if them listing one fee that costs $15 three times actually means the fee costs $45 or if it’s a mistake. That’s what I’m going to call and ask about. I would not stress about it. If it really starts to bother you, give either the bursar’s office or financial aid a call and have them explain the bill to you and if there are any other fees you should be expecting to post. My feeling is it would have showed up individually on your bill if that is how they bill international students.
And @danycam I just watched those videos on the link you shared a while back and they are very, very old lol. I watched those videos even before I started high school when I went through a phase where I wanted to be a fashion designer and go to FIT (I think, if not it was still several years ago I was watching the same videos).

@bini0625 Hi! I am sorry to hear you have gotten waitlisted again it is good that there is always still that chance of admission! From what I have noticed, reapplying helps, but I think it maybe a good idea to begin your education elsewhere before taking your studies to FIT. A friend of mine has a cousin who started this fall in the photography major. He was admitted I believe either the third or fourth time he applied but was able to get all of his general courses out of the way. Thankfully FIT was able to accept his credits, so he gets all of his SUNY Gen Ed requirements out of the way. I would start at the Art Institute or at a community two-year college to take these required courses which can transfer. That way, you can get four-six more major classes out of the way each year, and you maybe to graduate a semester or two earlier from the associates. I would call the academic advisement center, they know what courses would transfer over and which ones wouldn’t. Tell them your situation and ask maybe what you can take to get ahead if you’re admitted here. They are all very helpful!

@emart95 I haven’t, however my friends do have back to back classes. Truly, it all depends on the professor. Some of my professor dismiss us a half hour, twenty minutes early. If not, there is a 10, 15, 20 minute break during class. However, you will learn your way through FIT. The 3rd-6th floors connect from the A-D buildings. The 5th floor connects the same buildings as well as the library. It’s convenient if you’re short on time or if the weather is brutal. Ten minutes will give you enough time to get to point A to point B, since the professors are also not allowed to keep students past the specified class time.

@artsyfartsy96 Okay, thanks! That’s some good information to know. I also wanted to know is there a possibility of me as an advertising major to take a fashion design class? Or for that matter, any other class not gen ed or for my major? I have transfer credits like you had mentioned above for gen eds and would like to fill extra spaces with some different classes I’d be interested in.
Also, any other tips?

@emart95 Someone shared those videos in class of 2018 group. I don’t know they’re that old Thanks for the heads up.
Class registration starts on Dec 16 right? Do you guys think we should create a fb group to post schedule and discuss professors? Or just post on this thread?

Hey guys, I just got an email that I was wait listed :(

@Myaa90 what major? Iam also waitlisted for fmm1Yrs.

@Iamjenn I also got wait listed for FMM, but the 2-year program. This sucks, do you know how long we have to wait in order to get an answer?

@Iamjenn They just told me that I will qualify for the 1-year FMM program instead, that feels little better.

@danycam Lol, I’m sure a lot of the info and tips are still relevant, I just thought I’d let you know that they are older though haha
And that’s up to you. If you decide to make one (because I did look and couldn’t find one) I would make it for applicants/students starting in spring 2015, not like “class of 20__” because our graduation dates will probably all differ. But you would definitely find a wider group of people probably. It’s very limited on here because many people don’t use this site, or at least not like they use FB. So if you make a page/group, maybe post the link here that way anyone else who may want to talk to other applicants/students can join.

@Myaa90 i had a problem with my application so i am contacting with one of admission officer right now. She told me she may have a better idea if i am able to move off the waitlist on this wednesday. I’ll post after i contact with her.

@Iamjenn Sounds good! Let me know what they say.

Just got my acceptance today!!! Better late than never see y’all next month

@magc23 congrats! What major did you apply?

@Iamjenn Thanks!!! I applied for AMC as a transfer student. I hope you hear back soon about your waitlist position!

@magc23 Congrats! See ya in class lol!

@emart95 You can definitely register for any class, it just can’t have any prerequisites or major restrictions. Major restrictions, meaning that it is a block class given automatically to art and design students who have to enroll in that block. You are going to need the extra classes in order to remain a full time student. Your department will advise you to take higher-level classes in your degree but if you want to stay at school for four years and want to be seen as a more diverse, well-rounded student, I do highly suggest taking fashion design classes!

Scheduling is completely different for art and design and business students. You are FMM too, right? So you have a choice and are able to pick! I commute, so thankfully I can pack my classes into three days/week.

@Myaa90 Awh hun, I hope things work out! Good luck.

@artsyfartsy96 I’m AMC but yeah. I figured as much about the classes. I was able to go in and start registering (glitch in the system) and I tried getting into Intro to Fashion Marketing and it told me the class was restricted and only for FMM majors. It was pretty annoying because it’s completely relevant to AMC and it fit into my schedule perfectly. Are only some classes restricted and is there a way to tell when you’re registering before that message comes up? And another random question you might know the answer to: how does printing work at FIT? I’m not sure if I’ll be able to bring my printer (my mom might need it) and I’m sure I’ll have to print papers and documents and stuff. I was at another SUNY school and they gave us an allowance of $50 per semester to print through this website we would use. Is it anything like that or do you have to pay every time you print something?

@emart95 There are some sections in which you can not register for. That actually happened to me as well for this upcoming semester. For FMM, we are required to take a textiles class, and the section I wanted was for TS design students only. It’s extremely aggravating because the restriction does not appear when you look at the courses online. There are lots of things to be aware of before or during registration. Make sure you have no holds on your account and always have a few schedules written down. It a tedious process, but I just wanted to give you those pointers.

If you look online, there is a guide for what classes you should be taking and when. You can definitely take fashion marketing as a filler class and I do think it would be extremely beneficial for AMC. However, everything is separated into degree program online. Here is the course guide for AMC majors: <a href=“Advertising and Marketing Communications AAS Degree Program < Fashion Institute of Technology”>http://catalog.fitnyc.edu/undergraduate/majors/twoyearassociatedegreeprograms/advertisingandmarketingcommunicationsmajor/

As for printing, there are a couple of options. You can print in the library or in the Feldman basement in color or in black and white, but it will cost you to do so. You have to put a declining balance, which is money you put onto your ID. FIT does not give you an allowance, rather you are supposed to have money on the card each time you print. You can also use the declining balance in the cafeteria if you don’t have a meal plan or want to waste a meal on say, just a coffee. To print, it costs 90 cents for each page in color and 10 cents for each page in black and white.
