Ugh I guess I gotta do this again. I was supposed to try and transfer for spring 2014, but issues with my parents arose and they wanted me to wait. I wanted to try again for Fall 2014 and the same issues arose. I have a bit more autonomy this time around so I don’t have to waste time writing the essays and applying, and then finding out I won’t even be able to go even if I get in, but I’m not hopeful for a transfer. I have a 3.25ish and want to transfer into either Econ, Phil, OR Government. I have about 43 transferable credits so I have 2 more semesters to go ahead and try right? I’m taking 15 hours this semester. Do I have a decent shot? Also, if I get rejected, can I appeal and show them my grades for fall 2014 and hope they reconsider?

I forgot how they look at your gpa. Do they look at the classes that transfer or your college gpa?

Actually I did grade forgiveness, and my GPA on my transcript is 3.389. If they calculate my GPA with my failing English grade then it will be 3.12. So, does grade forgiveness help?

Alright! Well, looks like I’ll be submitting my application pretty soon. I’m gonna apply to UGS and COLA, since I don’t have the calculus readiness requirement for CNS yet But anyways, good luck to all of y’all! If you’d like, here’s a repost of my stats:

3.86 GPA

36 Completed Hours (I’m sure a few of them won’t transfer, but I know I have enough to apply)

ECs: Mexican American Engineers and Scientists; Restaurant Manager

Wrote 3 essays, and I feel fairly confident about the quality

I also have more than 250 hours of volunteer work at my church

1 Letter of recommendation from my precal professor, a UT alumnus

I have 34 units and a 3.5 but it’ll probably be more like 26 units with a 3.62(two non transferable 4 unit classes) and I am a computer science major. I know I probably won’t get in as computer science but how hard is it to transfer internally? I heard it was guaranteed until this fall semester when they screwed over a lot of people by not accepting people or even telling them? Also is there an advantage to going cns undeclared over ugs as my second choice? Thanks!

Also, I am taking calculus 1 this fall and applying for spring

@rogerybarra You’re in goos shape. With that application you should get into UGS and if not getting into COLA should not be problem.

@Kyotoraz Thank you! I really appreciate it! Good luck to you as well!

@mvgary094 UT requires 30 transferable hours. From reading hundreds of pages on these forums I have learned that it isn’t too difficult. They require you to get an A in whatever computer science course you will be enrolled in and an essay. Going undeclared isn’t bad but having a declared major is much better because it shows you know where you’re headed.

@rogerybarra No problem. Thanks lets hope we all make it

Thanks, I will have over 30 by the time I get there which is all they want, I’m mainly wondering what my chances are and if there’s an advantage to going cns undeclared or ugs(and which is easier)

Ugs or cns is my second choice btw

@mvgary094 UGS would be a safer bet since its easier to get into.

Did anyone find out about the internal computer science transfers? I heard it used to be guaranteed with a certain gpa but this semester it changed?

@Kyotoraz thanks, do you have an idea about the gpa to get in and whether it’s easier to transfer from the same department?

How hard is it to get into the Phil program. I’m probably going to apply for Economics and Phil

Hey I’m just wondering if it matters what you put for you first and second choice. For example I want to apply to the COE and UGS but does it matter which one I put first?

@texasforever13 They’ll consider you for the first choice school you put on the application. If you aren’t accepted into that one, then they’ll review you for the second choice.

Okay thank you @rogerybarra I just wondered if it look weird to admissions to put COE second just because I feel like my chances are better in UGS but I guess that doesn’t matter

The transfer acceptance rates for UGS and COE are both around 33%. The average transfer GPA is around 3.6 for UGS and 3.5 for COE. You can find this data in various UT reports like Transfer Times and UT’s Institutional Data page. Some friends have told me that the statement of purpose is more important for COE because they only accept about 100 transfers a year. That makes sense but there’s nothing official.
