Spring 2016 Transfer

Hi guys! This thread is for all Spring 2016 transfer applicants applying to UIUC to share our experiences and work throug questions together. Please join in!

I’m applying as a CS transfer and have a GPA of 3.70
My SAT is 1900 but didn’t have to share since I have a lot of college credits already
Pretty good ECs and essays

I’m still waiting anxiously for a decision, though I don’t know how soon those will be coming in.

Please join and share your stats / current status!

@VidaMia24 I’m also waiting for my decision. I applied for Spring 2016 as an international transfer student to the CoE, Civil Engineering. GPA: 3.87. Do you know when should we expect an answer?

Hey @delab95. Based on the past Spring transfer threads it seems like the decision date can really vary (some people report getting a response as soon as 2 days after submitting the application, but many get their decision in early and mid November). The latest we’re supposed to hear back is Dec. 15th (but I don’t think we’ll have to wait that long). I made this thread in part to see how everyone’s holding up and to share our status / decisions. I’m pretty much checking myillini obsessively but no update so far. Hope some more people join and share their status with us.

I applied as Materials Engineering. Only have around a 3.1 gpa though which I know is on the low end of the spectrum for gpa’s. Not really expecting to get in but hoping for the best haha

@crazywango

Positivity is key. I think the essays are really crucial to a compelling application. I think at the end of the day someone with a decent GPA and a good story might have an equal chance to someone with numbers but no personality or uniqueness in their application. It depends on whether the school’s evaluation method is truly holistic or more numbers focused, but I wouldn’t give up hope based on GPA alone. What other schools did you apply to?

Has anyone received their decision yet?

@delab95 I haven’t received my decision yet. I’m anxious to know of course but I think they won’t release them until Nov. 15th maybe. Ill let you know as soon as I hear back from any of the schools

@VidaMia24

I think i wrote an ok essay. I tried to show that i really have a passion for my major and what i want to do and stuff. I just hope the admission officer reading it doesnt think its too bland or clique. I also applied to Michigan for winter transfer but didnt get it. Im going to apply for UC Davis, Irvine, and LA as well but for fall transfer. I think it might be harder for me to get in to UIUC because I’m an out of state applicant and i read on another thread that they dont like to accept sophomore out of state applicants for spring Transfer.

Hi @crazywango

I think that’s a good idea. I tried to do the same with my applications – to balance between out-of-state and in-state choices. I tried to balance things between reaches, mid level and safety choices

@VidaMia24 Im from California so I think I have a pretty decent shot to getting into UC Davis even with a lower gpa since the UC schools have agreements with california community colleges and stuff. Im just applying to LA and berkley for fun even though i know i wont get in since the acceptance rate is so low. I figure LA is worth a try since such few people apply for my major every year. Not holding my breathe for them though. Im really hoping for Illinois or Michigan. I will apply to Michigan for the fall. Davis is the only UC i really want to go to though.

Has anyone heard back yet?

My buddy has just been accepted today. He’s going for Aerospace Engineering. I’m still waiting for the response (CompEng).

@stefanm123 do you by any chance know what his gpa is?

Sure @crazywango. It is 3.5/4.0 from a community college.

@stefanm123 thanks! Let me know if you get in! I hope we all get in haha

Thanks for sharing @stefanm123! And congrats to your friend. Thats awesome. Did he hear first through myillini or email? Im still waiting for my decision as well for comp sci. My 2nd major. choice was comp engineering. You guys think we’ll get our decisions by the 15th? For some reason I thought some decisions would come back by early Nov.

@crazywango California is a goldmine of great, reputable schools. I envy you! All those great schools at resident tuition rates is an amazing deal. What about UC San Diego? I heard theyre very good for certain engineeeing disciplines but Im not sure about materials engineering in particular

Actually guys, I just checked myillini and I was rejected. Looks like it wasn’t meant to be. I hope you guys have better luck. I hope I get into one of my other top choices, but if not, lo que será será

@VidaMia24 Yea I’m pretty lucky to be a Californian. UC San Diego doesnt offer Materials for undergrad unfortunately, but they do offer nano engineering which I did consider but ultimately decided to apply as Materials for every school. Since its what i really want to do.

I’m hoping we hear back by then. The wait is killing me. Plus if I actually somehow get in and hear back in the next two weeks then I can save money on the UC apps.

@VidaMia24 I’m sorry to hear that! I didnt get into Michigan so I know it sucks. What other schools did you apply to?

@crazywango I applied to illinois, u michigan, ut austin, RPI, cu boulder and oregon state university. Im still waiting to hear back from the others. Illinois was my top choice and my other top choice is ut austin
