Spring 2017 GS

@Kevin2509,

Thanks for the encouragement, I guess?

Anyone receive a packet yet?

@throwaway2875 No physical packet here either. Perhaps they’ve made it all-electronic now? Have you tried asking?

Would any accepted students be willing to share their stats?

@Palmier Yeah, spoke to the admission office about it and apparently it’s all electronic now. Except for the transfer credit evaluation, which should be received around two weeks after we receive our decision. I still haven’t received mine. ~X(

@throwaway2875 Thanks for the info. Hope you get that evaluation soon!

Congrats to everyone accepted! I’m planning to apply, and at the risk of sounding trite, does anyone know what aspects of the app are most important? I dropped out of HS for personal issues, have just started taking CC classes and expect to have excellent stats (including what I expect to be an excellent SAT score – but I heard that they don’t actually care much about that? would it be different for a kid who’s closer to the ‘traditional’ college age?) but I may be lacking in ECs and work experience (that is to say, no work experience and maybe minimal volunteering). To be honest, I don’t really “feel” Columbia tier but I know that the GS process is its own beast. I know there is no typical student profile for GS, but I feel like the only thing I bring is raw academic achievement which is already inherently below par compared to traditional students my age.

Congratulations for those accepted!
I also applied for Spring 2017. For those of you who already received acceptance letters, did you submit your applications in September? Did anyone who applied by Oct 1st deadline hear back from the school?

@addison12 - I applied by the Oct 1st deadline and have not received a reply. Good luck!!!

Thank you @volateel!! Good luck to you as well!

I read from a previous thread that if you can log into the financial aid account then it means you’re accepted. Is this just a myth? Or can someone send me a link to this financial aid page? (fyi I have not applied for FAFSA since I am an international student)

It’s the general consensus in past threads that if you can log in, you’ve been accepted. However, it does seem sort of anecdotal, since I received my admission letter a couple of days prior to my being able to log into financial aid. At any rate, best of luck to you and @volateel!

Hi all! I just turned in my application last night  I decided not to do early action so I could spend an extra month fine-tuning my essay.
I noticed nobody put stats up, so I’ll go ahead and put mine up for the future Potential gs’ers
Transferring from a Private School ranked in the 50s-70s
Break Experience: Church humanitarian aid for Chinese Immigrants (speak Chinese as a result)
GPA:
Pre education break: 2.9 (2 terms)
Post education break: 3.86 (3 terms)
Overall: 3.46
ACT: 32
Letters of Rec: pretty awesome! Both from professors. One professor I took four classes from, and the other I took one class from and then worked as a Teaching Assistant for.
Essay: I think it’s pretty dang good
I hit the “why I belong at GS” HARD! I talked largely about the core and why I want a liberal arts degree. I talked about its diversity and how I could add to that environment.

I hope I get in! For all those who heard back already, please post your stats! If you are applying, please do so as well

Good luck, everyone!

congrats to everyone accepted! & best of luck to everyone still waiting!
I just applied last night & am curious to see how many others applied for regular decisions

Did everyone receive Columbia University ID after submitting application materials?

i was thinking about that too!
i didn’t get anything but im thinking it might be sent when they receive the official transcripts and test marks?
anyone else?

@addison12 @wcrunaway Once you submit your application, you’ll receive a CUID number. You have to be accepted to the school prior to being able to obtain a picture ID.

@throwaway2875 Thanks so much for the info!

Did anyone who applied by the Oct 1st deadline hear back from the school?

@addison12 No problem. Just a heads up, applications submitted prior to the October 1st deadline will reach a decision by November 15. Around a week and a half left. Good luck, guys!

For students that got admitted, do you mind sharing your stats? (GPA/SAT SCORE/ECS…/ESSAY?)
I am applying for fall of 2017 and I’m so nervous.

@throwaway2875 Thanks again! Good luck to everyone!
