Hey! I'm a current student at USC -was admitted for Spring 2010 and decided to enroll! I decided to create a "CC" account because I remember how anxious I was as a spring admit last year and not knowing what my future entailed. I'm from the east coast, but USC was always my top choice. It was everything I wanted in a school and I knew that even though I was accepted as a spring admit, I would attend. I want to let everyone know that all of the spring admits stick together! We're all friends because we had our own orientation and we've all developed our own groups! I feel as though I started USC just as any other normal student. However, this is mostly due to the fact that I moved out to Santa Monica and attended Santa Monica College the first semester -which was HUGELY beneficial. (Many spring admits do this and everyone meets up on the SMC campus and socializes together!) Many students also lived in Tuscany or other apartments right off campus and drove to SMC (but it's about an hour drive with light traffic. And face it, this is LA people! I found my roommate on facebook through a "USC Spring Admits -2013 page) Do not move out to Santa Monica alone, I repeat, do NOT move out to Santa Monica alone! It would be so lonely and I know this girl that did it and she ended up going to a different college permanently because she couldn't deal with "LA" but what she really couldn't deal with was being alone! It's a scary step to take, and I was extremely nervous about it, but you should take the plunge if you can afford it. I did ship my car out from the east coast and rent is pricey in the Santa Monica area, but it's so worth it. You want the best for your children and being in LA and getting accustomed to LA is very important. Also, we all went to campus for parties and what not! Once your classes start, everything is amazing! You make so many new friends and USC is a school where anyone fits in! Also, housing is really bad for spring admits! DON'T BE FOOLED... I for one got extremely lucky and found housing on this website in one of the residential colleges (which i recommend doing). Try hard not to live in "Founders" or other "off-campus" housing that USC may assign you because it's totally unsanitary and dangerous! Honestly the only thing I think of when I step foot in Founders is turning around and stepping out! I'm really picky when it comes to where I live, so the horrible circulation was just too much! However, I'm sure a lot of people are content living in these places. If all else fails, DON'T sign the housing contract with USC and find people to move into a place off campus with! (there are many buildings that are USC affiliated. Try to get as close to campus as possible). Or if you can afford it, live in Gateway or Tuscany. Either way, you'll meet tons of people! Also, I'm a guy, but don't care about joining a fraternity b/c it's just not "me." However, guys can rush in the spring, but girls cannot. However, I know all the girls still go to the parties and it's nice because it gives them time to get to know the different sororities if they want to rush. It's really no big deal though, there is always something to do on/off campus and although greek life is pretty big at USC, it does not dominate. There are tons of fun things to do and bars to go to like the 90, clubs to join, events to attend, LA Live, movies, sports, etc. etc. USC is the best time! Also, I apologize for any errors I've made, it's really late...oh and I'm a busy student now and do not intend to use this account for more than a month or so, so please ask your questions now!

If there's one thing you take away from this post, it's that if USC is a place that you see yourself thriving, it's WELL worth the wait. FIGHT ON!!!! :)

What do you think the best way to guarantee decent housing would be? I would be going there from New Jersey so… That’s pretty damn far and I don’t really want to have to live somewhere terrible just to go to USC.

Thanks for writing this though, it was informative and really helps for people like me who are now really caught between taking a safety or the spring admission.

The best way to guarantee good housing is to apply as early as possible. That being the very MINUTE the clock strikes 12:01 am on the day you can apply. Also, to be frank the housing for spring admits just is not good. It isn’t even guaranteed! Something like 20 students didn’t even get housing (initially) however after other people (me) rejected their spring housing the other spring admits got to fill in the spaces. So everyone DOES end up with housing. However, it is LARGELY up to the STUDENT to find his own housing i.e. from this website, from facebook, networking, etc. I recommend checking multiple times during the day on this website and facebook for updates on housing. That’s what I did and I ended up in my top choice freshman housing dorm. (In a single!!) So I got ridiculously lucky. Oh also, USC TOTALLY screws you b/c they only give you something like 3 days to make the decision to live in the housing they provided you, which is not nearly enough time to find alternate housing. You’ll be fine as long as you do your research on housing!

I got into Chapman with a scholarship, NYU, AUP (American University of Paris), Santa Clara, GW and USC Spring. For my major, -I’m in Annenberg- USC is the most prestigious. Also, you can’t beat LA! Unlike most people, when I got into USC for spring, I didn’t care and I treated it as if I were going in the fall! I’m an optimist and I wanted to take advantage of the extra time I had to spare. PLUS you get to take REALLY easy classes at community college!!! Most freshman don’t do well their first semester, but I started off solid! However, don’t be fooled, you will NOT come into USC with say a 3.9 average!!! You just come in from community college with credits, NOT a GPA! However, it’s so worth it! It works in the spring-admit’s favor.

“Founders” is where my son a Spring admit for 2010 lives. It is only a half block north of the row! If you plan to rush a Fraternity during your Spring semester then this is a great location. By the way, Founders even have dishwashers! Just make sure you have a bike!

If you go on facebook someone will eventually create a “USC Spring Admits 2014” group and people will post onto that. For example, many of the freshman living in New/North/Birnkrant/Trojan Hall move into frats/sororities and there are spaces that are available. These students still have a signed contract with USC for a year so it is up to them to find a replacement. These students will post onto the facebook page or any other means of contacting people. It’s up to you to find them/get lucky.

thanks for info. really, really helpful. the housing thing is only thing that makes me a bit uncomfortable…but kids go abroad, drop out etc. in spring don’t they? are all dorms NONSMOKING? I do not want to be in smoking dorm

As a current spring admit living in Founders, I don’t consider it that bad. Although I would much rather live on campus or in Annenberg (a nearby apartment complex), I don’t mind it. I don’t feel unsafe at all. It is a little bit dirty, but I don’t mind much.

Yes tons of kids move out of their dorms for the second semester for many different reasons, making them available to spring admits. About Founders. I’m sorry I made it seem so bad. I have friends that live there! I’m just bitter because my locked up bike was stolen from there this past week! (Somebody cut through the lock, and my bike was on the second floor in the appropriate spot!) My friend’s bike was stolen from the exact same spot and it was locked up! We bought the same bike…just goes to show you don’t spend over $180 on a bike or it’ll be toast! This is South Central people! About non-smoking dorms, DON’T WORRY! I don’t even know if any of the dorms are even “smoking” …? You’d have to ask somebody else on this one, but that’s the last thing you have to worry about. USC will not assign you a smoking dorm if you do not want one. Not that many people on campus smoke anyways. It’s gross.
