So my friend is a spring admit and she was wondering if she still had time to appeal for fall admission and how to go about that. She's not sure if she should just send a letter to the admissions office or what. I don't know how that works, but I told her I'd ask you guys. Anyone know?

i think it might be too late for this; assuming that spring admit appeals would go along in the same time frame as regular appeals b/c spring admit appeals, if changed to fall, would probably take the same allotted spots that berkeley admissions set aside for regular appeals...

So when was the deadline for regular appeal then? Think if she sends it now it might work? And what exactly would you write in such things?

according to this site, they wanted most appeals by april 15.

this is taken from the appeal forum here

according to that forum, the regular appeals are already coming back...which is in accordance with the first link and outline of the appeal processes for each UC.

your friend could give it a try, though. wouldn't hurt anyone / anything, and she definitely has nothing to lose.

as for what to include, she should include specific, valid, and compelling reasons why her admission should be changed to fall. most of the people who are admitted through regular appeal have strongly convincing reasons / new developments since application time.

Hey, thanks for the info man :P

haha, she's pretty worried about being a spring admit. Now she wants to know if her transcript is going to look any different from Fall admits? Anyone know the answer. She's freaking out saying that grad schools are going to know because she's not going to have the same classes as all the other 'fall' admits during FPF. Anyone know anything I can say to console her?

Spring admits take (some?) classes at berkeley, and then in the spring their transcripts just fold in like everyone else's. There are no "set" classes that everyone has to take semester 1, so i dont see why grad schools would care. A whole lot of people get in as spring admits, berkeley wouldnt do it if it was detrimental in some way.

Okay, here's what you can tell her: my niece, who was a spring admit, graduated from Berkeley last year, and just applied to doctorate programs at 6 schools. Got into all 6. They are: Harvard, Brown, Columbia, NYU, UCLA, UCB. In fact, the three Ivys offerred to PAY HER 19K a year to go to school until she got her masters, and then she'll start teaching. She gets research grants, she gets to cross-enroll, its all incredible.

She took CAl extension courses in the fall before she got on camppus. So please tell her NOT to worry. Its all about what you do when you get there.

The problem is that being a spring admit in a prospective student's eyes is too much b/c they feel different.

I participated in FPF last semester, and it was awesome. I made more friends last semester than I have this semester in classes, by far.

Hard to not be friends when we took the 3-4 courses with the same sections!
