spring admit.. but wanna go in fall

I am a spring admit even though i applied for fall. I have the option of
doing FPF but that does cost some extra money and i don't seem to be able to
experience the real UC Berkeley with my friends until spring.

Is it possible that Cal may accept my inquiry for a change to fall admission? I thought
if enough people retracted their acceptances there could be more room for people in the fall....

Not possible. You don’t think you’ll have the same experience? While they are struggling in a sea of 400+ classrooms, you’ll be smooth sailing in a max 100 person classroom. If you want to be in Berkeley in the fall, do FPF. It’s just one semester out of 8 (or 9…).

FPF includes living in Berkeley and the real Berkeley experience

Well I would say while FPF includes living in Berkeley, you don’t exactly study on the main campus proper so in that sense it’s not a “true” Berkeley experience.

At the same time, they admitted you in Spring for a reason, so you can’t apply back for Fall. When the admissions committee makes their decisions, they take into account the number of people who are likely to accept the offer (the “yield”). Thus, they already know roughly how many will decline the offer and have factored that in, and will not need the Spring admissions to make up for anything.

Besides, FPF doesn’t cost “extra money” - you are still earning academic credits. If you’re admitted for Fall, doesn’t the cost of that semester cost “extra money” too?

you either pay Berkeley tuition or FPF costs, but not both

^yep, exactly.

Hey smoothsleep the same thing happened to me, and I talked to my brother, who goes to Berkeley, he knows some FPF’s (which is what you should do if you want to go to Berkeley over the fall) and he/his friends totally believe it is worth it  They would also tell you that Berkeley is a great school! Also most of the FPF’s live in dorms, and there are other housing options available, so sign up! You can sign up before you commit too. Good Luck with your decision and we might be Bears together! :)

Looks like FPF is an amazing option. But i do have one more question though. If i do FPF, will be able to meet (or maybe possibly room) with my friends who also got in to Cal?

You will have the same experiences as a Berkeley student in the Fall.
I attended the webinar about FPF yesterday (because I’m a spring admit too) and they said you can dorm with your fall friends, just fill in the housing application before the deadline of sometime in the first week of June. And since you’ll be attending the same campus (well technically you’ll be attending a different building as the fall admits) you’ll still be able to see and dorm with your friends :)

No, you’ll be physically segregated and not allowed to see each other until January. Any close contact will trigger an alarm that can explode a necklace you will be wearing, Battle Royale style.

Okay all sarcasm aside, you’ll be at UC Berkeley. Period.
