<p>Sooo I'm a theatre major who was accepted for spring of 2010 of this coming year. </p>
<p>I just wanted anyones opinion on the chances of me getting bumped up for fall and when/how I will find out if I get bumped up or not....?</p>

<p>HMR, in many cases the number of admits who get bumped up to fall has to do with how many fall admits end up matriculating. If this year’s added 1-2% accepted students translates to a class of the desired size (about 2700?), they will not move many up. In your particular school (theatre) the number who matriculate may affect bumps, too. </p>
<p>I’d say this year is a real question mark. Many are wondering if students will select less expensive state schools over private schools in the current economy. This would be good for spring admits, I’d think.</p>
<p>Have you called the School of Theatre and asked their admissions person about last year. How many (if any) got bumped to fall? It couldn’t hurt. And you could ask how they make the decision of which spring admits get the few open spots in fall? Do they have a list in order, or…? If you are sweet and do a good job of PR for your case, they may note your extra interest on your app. </p>

<p>From what I’ve gathered, an additional fifty to hundreds of spring admits can be bumped up depending on the number of students matriculating. Spring admits all get placed in the same pool, so no one gets an advantage over someone else for getting bumped up. Like madbean said, it also depends on the school that you were admitted to. I would imagine that smaller schools have less spots open in general so they will let in less spring admits, but that’s just speculation. I’m planning on writing a letter to express my interest in becoming a fall admit as soon as I find out what kind of financial aid I’m going to receive. It definitely couldn’t hurt.</p>

I applied to SPPD and from what I’ve gathered at my visit to USC Preview on Tuesday, about 10-30 kids are admitted to SPPD as fall freshmen each year.
This being said, I’m really hoping my chances as a spring admit are good.
I was also told that the earliest Spring students would know would be June.</p>
<p>Last year though, the rejected people who appealed heard their reconsidered decisions on May 16th…soo wouldn’t the spring admits hear before then?? Because they take spring admits over the appeals</p>
<p>well they cant decide who gets bumped up until theyve sufficiently processed the fall admits and figured out how many spots are open and how many more they want

<p>I can’t remember when, but I feel like somebody mentioned apring admits hearing about being bumped up to fall in mid May. I know that’s what people have said about the appeals, but I think somebody said the same thing about the bump ups.</p>

<p>So should I send a letter or anything to say I’m interested in going in the fall if I can?? My dad has kept in close contact with my admissions counselor and when I received spring admission, he emailed her immediately thanking her and telling her that if there’s any way I would love to go in the fall. My dad says that since he sent that email awhile back, I shouldn’t send another letter/email about requesting to be moved up. He said to just let it happen, and what’s meant to be is meant to be…I don’t know what to think. Opinions??</p>
<p>Oh, and i signed up for housing the day i got my admissions letter…lol i found out i was the first person to register for housing from the spring group…lol shows dedication to getting in i think…?</p>
<p>I was going to do that, but in the letter it said that it doesn’t make a difference as long as you apply before July 1st or something. All the spring admits who apply for housing before that get lumped into the same first group. I’m waiting to get my financial statement, then I’ll apply. Where did you list as your top choices HM?</p>

As a spring kid, even if you apply for housing now, they automatically pre-sort you into the spring pile to be looked at in July.
It sucks but that’s it, you know?

But some senior theatre student was telling me that getting bumped up for fall is rare…which doesn’t make sense to me, because if there are spotzs open from fall from people who didn’t decide to go to usc…wouldn’t they want to try and fill those spots up with spring admits?? Then again…I could have beeen misinformed because i only talked to a theatre student and not an actual counselor.</p>
<p>When I was at explore this past week, I was sitting next to an admissions officer. I asked about spring admits as being kind of a waitlist for the fall. He told me that the people that are accepted for spring stay in spring, but then said a little bit later that a few get bumped up, but not many. I gather that it is possible but rare…</p>
<p>USC makes offers of Fall admission with a projected yield in mind; they expect a certain percentage to say yes, based on previous years’ results. So the fact that people turn down the offer does not automatically make space for spring admits to be moved to fall. If yield is lower than expected, that is most likely what will open up spots for a spring admit. It happened last year, but the numbers seem to vary greatly from year to year.</p>
<p>If you have any news (awards or publications or performances, e.g.), that would give you an excuse to email your admissions officer with the news and your interest in starting in fall. And HMR, at this point, it would be best if this came from you instead of your dad.</p>
