Spring Admit

I am seeing that some people on the board are confused/angry/wondering if and why they are a spring admit.

If you are confused as to why you are a spring admit there can be many reasons. There may not be enough room to admit you in the fall for your major, but you are still wanted. You may have excellent stats, but someone has better stats/different needs/whatever but SC still wants you. And, if you really want what SC has to offer and you feel that you can commit to SC: then take the offer.

Speaking as a parent of a spring admit (two times) and as someone who started in spring (yes, in medival times) due to other circumstances I can be truly honest. Is it slightly more difficult socially? Yes, SLIGHTLY, but jump right in and you'll be fine. You will be at a slight disadvantage in getting first crack at classes, but perserve and you'll be fine. And yes, an odd class that you might not have thought about taking can be a revelation.

You are not second class. Your diploma will say USC. And you will be part of the Trojan Family.

I’ll just add a couple things:

Many of you have so many AP credits that you’ll not be behind in progress toward a degree. If you need credits, you can get them far more economically at a community college or a state U before moving to SC.

Had he not been bumped up to Fall, my son was fully prepared to go on a major adventure in the Amazon through NOLS, and I know of a couple kids who did similar things. It’s an incredible opportunity to do something you wouldn’t otherwise have time to do.

Don’t be angry - at least not for long. If it offends you terribly, perhaps you’ll be happier somewhere else. But if you can accept the fact that terrifically qualified kids don’t always get in, you should be really happy to be a Spring Admit and not dangling on somebody’s waiting list. USC has put you in control of your destiny!

Very good point FauxNom. I think a lot of us have enough AP credit to pass out of plenty of GE classes anyways. That should definitely be considered.

I echo the sentiment above. My daughter does not know or care who is Spring admit or transfer students either.
