I just got my big package in the mail. After months of anxious waiting, I got into my top choice school!!! However, I am slightly disappointed. I was admitted as a spring admit instead of a fall admit, as I had originally intended. I am very confused on what it means to be a spring admit, so here I am. I have some questions:

If I show interest by emailing/mailing USC, is there a possibility that I will be bummed to a Fall admit? I really don't want to miss out on meeting people and just the general experience.

According to previous posters, spring admits do not have the same stats as fall admits. Is this really true? Here are mine:
SAT:2190
gpa:3.4
one of the top high schools in the nation

As for housing, has any spring admits had a hard time finding housing?

while i cant answer your questions,
we can clearly see why you got spring admit.
your gpa (UW im assuming) is lower than their general averages…while your probably a really strong applicant, they probably dont want 3.4’s weighing down their reported values…so they sprung u to spring. I have a 3.5 (still pretty low) so right about now a spring admit would seem nice…i agree housing/social is not so great but eh…a cc is not too bad, it would really help your gpa for a semester…get rid of GEs

Ninja,
SC does not have a waiting list. You are admitted or not. Yes, you have been admitted. You will just start a bit later than most of the other freshmen. There is still a chance you will be “bumped” up to fall admission.

You now know you ARE IN! Parents are suddenly transferred abroad, students contract mono, there are auto injuries or family emergencies. For one reason or another SC wants you in the class, but is asking you to wait…just a few months. You will not have to deal with the uncertainty of waiting weeks on a wait list that can have hundreds of students. One major selective university last year had over 400 on the wait list. There was really no chance for most of those to be admitted. All summer into August they were waiting.

Some seniors find this to be a break from the pressures of studying, projects and exams. There is the opportunity for a gap semester or travel with course credit. Many use this time to earn funds for social activities or extras once classes begin. It can be an opportunity to take requirements at a community college near your home.

As Pete Carroll used to comment use this as an opportunity, not a setback. Check out the posts on this board of students who may not be admitted to their dream school. Many would be thrilled to change places with you.

You may be one of those “bumped” up. Celebrate the fact YOU ARE IN!

Let me add my congratulations, 10ninja. You have been admitted to an outstanding university. They did not put you on a waiting list; you have been admitted. And congratulations on a 2190 SAT.

My son was a spring admit for this year, Spring 2010, in the School of Cinematic Arts. USC film was his top choice and he accepted the spring option without a second thought. He did not want to attend community college, since he had 20 hours of credit from USC for his many AP classes in high school, and we agreed. Instead he worked through the summer and early fall, and then did some low-budget travel. For housing USC put him in an attractive, well maintained university-owned apartment building along with many, many other spring admits. Plenty of people to get to know, and new to campus just like him. Shortly after he got to school he was offered a space in a dorm but he liked the apartment-style living and the people in the building so much he turned it down, plus the dorm was just not as nice.

Everyone has a different experience, but honestly, he is doing great, has plunged fully into campus life and quickly made friends, and has had no problems being a spring admit. USC was very attentive all along the way and addressed any concerns or questions we had. The other spring admits we met at orientation were amazing kids. I think USC has many high-caliber students among whom to assemble a class, fall or spring. I would not listen to those who try to tell you that spring admits in some way are inferior. And once you get there - nobody cares, or at least that’s what my son reports.

Wow, I would have never expected so many replies. Thank you all for your kind words and support. If the support from USC is as strong as you claim middleoftheroad, then most of my qualms have been resolved. Thank you Georgiagirl and elakador for the congratulations! You both are right! I really shouldn’t feel inferior. I got into, in my opinion, one of the best schools in the world. <3
If I am unable to be switched to a fall admit, I really hope I have a similar situation as your son’s, middleoftheroad.

I AM A TROJAN! AHHHH! …sorry couldn’t resist :D

Grats on the acceptance 10ninja! I think I am also a spring admit as the back door link brings me to the enrollment form for spring admission, do you live in the LA area? I’m wondering if I have a chance at mail tomorrow lol.

If I am accepted into spring I think I’m going to go, similar to you USC is my dream school and I don’t see why 1 semester is worth passing it up. Be proud though, any admission to USC these days is huge.

What school did you apply to? I applied for Marshall, but if I am not accepted there, I am hoping to be accepted as undeclared. I can’t remember if I selected a second choice. I think maybe Econ…

I applied to Marshall with second choice econ. My enrollment commitment deposit page shows spring enrollment so I am guessing that I will be a spring admit.

werty1992:I applied under the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Major. I think that this weekend is the primary time that USC sends out acceptance letters for spring admits.

Congrats 10ninja! Sure a spring acceptance may not be exactly what you wanted, but at the end of the day you can take solace in the fact you WILL become a Trojan - it’ll just take a few extra months, that’s all! FIGHT ON!!

norcalryan: yes you can be a spring admit to marshall because i just got in yesterday

btbam91: is it possible to graduate on time with the rest of your class, or do you have to graduate in december of the next year? and also is their any way to try to appeal to become a fall admit?

I got the spring admit too. I’m so lucky that I got in, but I was really looking foward just to go to college in the fall!! I know its unlikely, but how exactly to people get bumped up to fall admit if they’ve been admitted for spring?
