Hey! So, due to financial issues I can't ( tear) do FPF and will have to wait til January (omg... so far away) to enroll at Berkeley. Is there anyone else who's not doing FPF? What are you guys planning to do in between HS graduation and Cal?

Also, for any current students, is it hard for spring admits to adjust socially to life at Berkeley? I'm a little worried.. I mean, CAL IS HUGE and i'm sure its hard to adjust for fall admits but probably not as hard as it will be for those comming in the spring. At least with fall you feel more connection, being new, scared freshman and all. How is the experience for people comming in fresh in the spring semester? What's the best way to meet people fast? Should I join a bunch of clubs?

There a lot of spring admits. Many do fine socially. I really don't think they have much more trouble than Fall admits. Clubs are a good way, intermural sports, joining a Greek house, co-ops, classes, hmm . . .

It's up to you, really. If you choose to be proactive and aggressive in making friends, you will make friends. If you choose to wait until someone comes up to you and ask to be your friend, then no..

The best way IMO is to join a sports club that focuses on team work. I've made some fantastic friends in crew (rowing) because the whole sport depends on teamwork (trust, dependability, strength/power as a team).

There are social clubs that provide avenues for friendship as well. Seek and you will find!

My roommate is on the NCAA crew team. They're pretty hardcore. It has a lot of Olympians and they are reallyyyyyyy good. A lot of international students are recruited for rowing.

But I didn't know there was a club sport for it too, I just thought it was the NCAA.

Anyway, only reason why I asked you in the other post unlimited which rowing you were in, is because I know a couple rowers in person. Plus my roomie is a rower.

"I don't think he pays anything, unless you meant with the early hours or something."

what!! Sport club members have to pay $1000 each year, not even taking into account the mandatory fundraising, and the spiffy jackets and pants that costs way more than they should be.

My roommate is not in a sport club. He's on the NCAA rowing team that competes, and some of the other members are Olympians. It's not the rowing club, but the actual Cal team!

Unfortunately the second guy I've been with was on the NCAA rowing team as well--not the club, but the actual Cal team-- and they sleep around, a lot. :(

is it possible to get back to the original question in my post... not that hearing about someone's crew roomates who sleeps aroudn isn't informative, it's just not what i intended to hear...

"At least with fall you feel more connection, being new, scared freshman and all. How is the experience for people comming in fresh in the spring semester?"

Honestly, it's just fifteen extra weeks of being clueless about life plans, killing brain cells with vodka, and consuming about twelve billion more calories via dc food. As a first-year, in other words, you have nothing to worry about.
