Does USC admit some students for Spring 2012? Is this for students who are borderline academically and may qualify for waitlist? Thanks.

Yep. USC waitlists some students for the fall and allows them to enroll in the spring.

Unfortunately last year, USC didn’t accept any students off of the waiting list, so some people who had planned on nothing but USC got stuck with only spring admission.

Thanks AUGirl, I would be content with Spring Admit. I am OOS , my GPA is 91 unweighted, I have 3 college level courses . My SAT is below 1100. Do you think I have a shot at Spring admit?

A LOT of my sons friends were only admitted for Spring last year. That seems to be a very common practice at USC. I suspect that it works out well for a lot of students, it gives them a few extra months to work and save some money or to attend a branch campus or a less expensive community college.

You are definately a candidate for a spring admit (I am assuming you are talking about spring of next year which would technially be 2013)

I think you still have a pretty good chance of getting into USC Regular Decision, because your GPA makes up for your low test scores.

But yeah, you definitely have a good chance at Spring Admit status if you don’t get in regular.

Thanks for the responses. Although I would prefer Fall 2012, Spring 2013 would give me some time to save some money by attending community college for one semester. The only disadvantage is obviously social, but hopefully I can make up for that by joining clubs and maybe a sorority. Will I miss out on rush? Does anyone know if USC has an orientation for spring admits to get to know one another? Do they usually put spring admits together in housing assignments?

I don’t think you’d be too bad off socially. I know of so many people moving around dorms that you’re bound to meet people on your hall. (In my hall, there are six rooms in my section of the dorm. I know of at least three people of those twelve that won’t be coming back next semester for one reason or another.) There are also a lot of people who do come in the spring and everyone has classes with completely different people, so I wouldn’t worry about the social aspect.

There is a Spring Orientation, but at USC, you don’t really meet that many people at Orientation, anyways. It isn’t like many schools. At some schools, orientation is a few days long, but at USC, it basically lasts from 8-5 one day. A lot of students come the day before to take the Foreign Language Placement Test, but that doesn’t really provide much socialization time either. Spring Orientation is apparently abbreviated. There’s information about that here: [USC: Orientation and Testing Services](<a href=“Toolbox - Student Affairs and Academic Support | University of South Carolina”>Toolbox - Student Affairs and Academic Support | University of South Carolina)

I’m not in a sorority, so I could be totally wrong, but from my understanding, there is no Formal Rush in the Spring. Some sororities do offer bids to new girls in the spring, but there isn’t a Formal Process where you can see all of the different sororities.

From the looks of the USC 2015 Facebook Pages, I would say that spring admits get placed in any open housing available. There are a lot of students looking for their roommates, both new and returning students.

AUGirl, Thanks for taking the time to respond. Great info. Do you know if I can rush as a sophomore? Keeping my fingers crossed that I will get in. Thanks again. If many of the students are as helpful and friendly as you are , I shouldn"t have too hard a time meeting people.

Awe. You’re welcome. I sure do love Carolina and I think it’s full of friendly people. :)

You can definitely rush as a sophomore. :)
