which community college is the best?
I’m thinking about going to LA in the fall to go to a CC because the one where I live is impossible to get into.

I think any community college that has an articulation agreement with USC is good. However, if you plan on living near USC, then I recommend attending Los Angeles City College. It is about 7 miles from campus and about 30 minutes away. The teachers are actually really dedicated and knowledgeable about the subjects that they teach.

My D was initially a Spring Admit last year but was bumped to Fall (Dornsife). There were many Spring admit bumps and Appeal admits last year. I don’t know if there really were more than usual but some thought the 2 murdered grad students may have played a role. My D’s plan was to go to CC in OC where we have a condo. We started the application process but fortunately didn’t need to pursue it. I hear it can be tough to get classes in the CCs in California but reading above posts, it obviously can be done. Someone started a Facebook page for Spring Admits last year which was a great way to bring people together.

As a spring admit from last year, here are some answers to your questions!

Trojan13: Yes, you can rush greek life but only fraternities. There is less competition too which makes it easier. Soriorities rush in the fall but they take people as Sophomores. Pm me if you want my opinions on specific houses.

Ilovemyego: last fall, there was a big group of spring admits who went to football games and met other spring admits there, I am glad you are planning on doing that.

I really hope you all have a good time as spring admits. Also, join the spring admit facebook page, I made a ton of friends on there before school started and we even organized a disneyland trip.

As a spring admit, you can not go through sorority recruitment in the fall. The fraternities hold spring recruitment so spring admits can pledge in the spring. Unfortunately, only a few of the sororities hold an informal recruitment in the spring. Mostly houses that didn’t make quota. Formal recruitment is in the fall and spring admits must wait until fall of sophomore year to go through recruitment.

Luckily, at USC so many girls go through as sophomores that it won’t hurt your chances at any house.

My son chose to live in Gateway. Relatively new, nice housing. it’s right there, a bit more expensive, but close and safe. Many spring admits live there during the Fall. If you contact them they will also tell you they organize rooms full of spring students. We were surprised by that (in a good way) it as just like a dorm. My son lives in an on-campus dorm now and it is a dump by comparisin, but he does not care.

Best of luck everyone with whatever choice you make. College is the best.

Our D also enjoyed Gateway, but it was pricey. They’ve since dropped the prices slightly. Nice way to get some of the dorm experience and be close to campus.

How often to Annenberg students get bumped up? (Broadcast and Digital Journalism major) I am so unbelievably happy to be going to USC!!! I went to my first football game at 3 years old and have been in love with the university ever since!! (:

Did he have trouble finding a roommate in gateway? I’m a spring admit as well.

Gateway is rented by the bed. You do not need to fill up an apartment to rent. You will fill out a roommate matching form where you could request other spring admits or anything else that is important to you. You do not need to worry about finding people in advance if you don’t want to, but can sign up with someone else if you meet them and want to share a room or apartment with them (and there is space for both/all of you together)

There are openings spring semester because some students go abroad/ graduate. There are always sublet opportunities too.

Spring admit here Will probs do an internship. Really happy and thankful i got in

Good luck!

My D was originally admitted as a spring admit, Annenberg, and was bumped up on May 1st along with a handful of friends. She lives in a suite style dorm on campus where all her other 7 suite mates were also spring admits who were bumped up. Everyone was excited for the spring admits to show up in Jan. More people to meet. She is having a blast!

How does being bumped up work? Is it based on when you submit your commitment. I already submitted my enrollment deposit…but I havent sent in the card because I didn’t receive my admissions packet yet.

A place must open for a student to be moved forward as a fall admit. Sometimes fall admits become ill, have a family crisis, choose another college or decide to take a gap year. This opens up a space in that major. Students are notified by the university if they have been moved to enroll in the fall.

Many colleges/universities have spring admits. The important fact to remember is the student HAS BEEN ADMITTED, not placed on a waiting list of 600 or 800 with practically no chance of admission.

When USC commencement occurrs in four years there will not be anyone pointing out this person or that person was a spring admit!! Thousands of students were sent letters of regret for SC this year. When one reads comments from students who were not admitted how happy they would have been to be enrolling…just later.

how often do they bump annenberg students?? I just submitted my enrollment response card

How exactly do we apply for housing? The only option is whole year instead of just spring semester. I don’t want to throw $45 away!

Spring admits can’t apply for housing until July 1, as I recall. So just hold tight.

Getting bumped depends on USC’s yield - how many accepted students decide to enroll. The university will know soon after May 1 how much room they have for spring students to be bumped up. If you haven’t gotten bumped by the end of May, it’s probably not happening. If you do get bumped, you can then apply for housing immediately at that time as well as orientation.

A couple of thoughts…

D1 was a spring admit a few years back, opted to attend another university, and last year ended up transferring to USC anyway. She’s extremely happy and, based on how great a job USC does welcoming the transfer students, I’d bet that they work hard to ensure spring admits are integrated fully into campus life as well.

To those spring admits hoping for a fall slot at Annenberg, D2 is about to give hers up. (Long story and mixed feelings… )

I guess the punchline is that if USC is your dream school, just go for it!
