i was admitted to spring... O_o what does this mean?

i also got in for spring and would love to hear as much information about this program as possible. this would be the only factor deterring me from choosing berkeley

do u know how many students are offered this option every year?

thanks for the parents and former students who started this. i was very confused when i first read my admissions decision but now i'm actually getting excited for the program. i would LOVE smaller classes

im confused.. my friend just told me that she heard it "sucked" .. so.. what exactly is this?
how do they choose who are spring admits? is it based on stats aka borderline?

You can look at some of my earlier posts on Spring Admits. There is a link to a page where you can query statistical info on Spring Admits, a link to a CAL admissions doc, and various other info. I'll try to post a summary later, but sadly, I have to work now......

By the way, I had dinner with my S last night, and the only thing he suggested to you all was to not live in Foothill dorm (the low-point of his freshman year). So, that speaks to him having a perfectly fine experience as a Spring Admit

And congratulations to you all for being accepted to CAL

it says this is not a reflection of our academic/personal performance--then why is housing/access to campus services restricted?

also, would you recommend going to a CC instead of doing the Fall extension program for freshmen? this will be much cheaper, right?

also, does this put us at a disadvantage for registering for classes, etc. because at ucla i got into the honors program where i would have priority registration and i'm not sure if it is wise to accept ucb as a spring admit instead

We don't have to live in dorms though right?

What you CAN do is apply for the Extension program...what will basically happen is that you will live in the dorms just like the other students, but you will take classes at a separate extension building on campus....you'll pretty much have the same experience as the "regular" acceptees though, so no worries...just make sure you get into the extension program!

Registration is separate for Spring admits. Right now you guys may seem somewhat disappointed that you have been deferred to spring, and I understand. I also contemplated attending a JC instead, however, FPF is an excellent program and I truthfully do not regret having participated in it.

And last year all FPF participants who applied for dorms received a space.

At the end, it's up to you. Just remember this will only affect you 1 out of the 8 wonderful semesters at Cal, and I'd say many students I know from FPF agree that we miss that intimate classroom experiences.

BTW, act soon. I remember during Cal Day, the FPF coordinators said there were only 50 spaces out of ~600 spaces left.

so.. ucla honors vs ucb spring..
O__o hard decision =o

i would search for earlier posts about spring admits.. but it seems CC has disabled that feature. =(

should i just send in my deposit for the extension program right now, even though i'm not positive i'll be going to Cal

do you have to pay the same tuition if you do the extension program vs if you were accepted as a fall admit?

there is a video linked to our admissions letter online about spring admission and one of the two students mentioned that he moved into the dorms during spring semester. I'm kind of confused by this, does it mean we can't live in the dorms during fall or did that student just choose not to/was unfortunate and couldn't get it. I guess what I'm trying to ask is can spring admits still live in dorms if they want to and what is the difficulty of this?

so save me, you are in the same position as me (ucla honors vs ucb spring), right?

The whole "honors" program at UCLA shouldn't be a main selling point when deciding between LA and Cal. You can get into honors at LA by merely having a 3.5 GPA, or qualifying through various other methods. At Berkeley, although there is no campus-wide "honors program," each department offers its own methods of attaining honors upon graduation. If you can secure yourself a place in the dorms via the extension program at Cal, I definitely think you should choose Berkeley over LA. Heck, even if you can't I still think you should go to Cal ;-)

then again, i may be a LITTTTLE biased :)

yes spring admits can still live in dorms.

can spring admits room with fall admits? or are they sequestered off into their own little area?

can they only take special classes w/the extension program? how limited is that program's course selection?

they're treated just like fall admits....yes, you can room w/your fall admit pals :)

o, about the course selection...yes, for your first semester you can only take extension courses, but from what I hear theres a decent selection....talk to ppl who have done the program before.

is it easier to get housing in the spring if you do the FPF program?

it says on the website that space is limited (first 650 people) and so we should reserve a space asap, but we dont have to accept admission yet...how exactly does that work? does that mean just sending the Enrollment and Payment Form (EPF) and the $100 first and that will get us a spot in line?

"is it easier to get housing in the spring if you do the FPF program?"

Read the posts before posting! ALL FPF students who applied for housing last year received a space somewhere.
