Hey Unlimited, I was going to PM you but your box is full.
I was just curious that if you feel that this semester helps to ease students into the college setting and really helps because they can make the transition easier. The small setting described (650 students) and taking clases amongst yourselves actually sounds awesome. Also, I am guessing that the credit counts, but I have heard conflicting statements so I just wanted to clear that up.

It's funny because a lot of these questions were actually answered in the FAQs.

I am also a Spring Admit and to be frank (and perhaps in contrast with everyone else), I am one happy cookie. Berkeley is Berkeley. Fall or spring, you still get a wonderful education and that's how I am taking it.

Your success at this point depends on how well you do once you start not when you start. If someone is going to be pompous enough to think that being admitted in the fall gives them pedestal rights, they will be in for a reality check soon enough. And anyone that gives you a hard time about it... just isn't worth your time. They can believe whatever they want, but what they believe has no control over what you can do.

So I say... everyone should go for it. If you really want to go to Berkeley, then just go. That's what I'm doing! :)

But on another topic, it seems like (or I am told) a lot of people that got admitted in the Spring were engineer majors. Is this true? I got accepted into the College of Engineering under CivilE and I kind of think that if I had gone undeclared... I might have started in the fall instead. I assumed that the reason was because there just wasn't enough room in the classes for engineering. So I'll start my GE's at the fall extension instead.

really? i was actually thinking the opposite today talking to my friends. based on the kids at my school it seemed like engineering applicants either got accepted fall or just plain rejected. we had a bunch of l&s spring admits, including myself.

I'm an L&S undeclared. Doing the extension!

Then... I consider myself severely lucky. Hahaha. I hear the college is supposed to be hard to get into, but I wouldn't really know.

It's nice to know that there are quite a few people going into the Spring and we might just see each other at FPF.

I've been talking to many current Cal freshman, and this program sounds awesome. I'll admit that yesterday i was pretty dissapointed, but now i greatly appreciate the opportunity Berkeley gave me (us).

You stay in the dorms.
You get the same social experience.
Most FPF students come out with higher GPAs.
Tighter social network.
In the Spring, you're exactly the same as everyone else and you graduate FROM BERKELEY, which was our intent in applying right?

So if anyone is really dissapointed and feels that they've been disrepected by Berkeley, then i agree, treat it as a rejection and move on because if you're qualified enough for Berkeley, you definitely got into other wonderful schools. As for the rest of us, congratulations! I'll see you in the fall =)

p.s. Almost half of the students admitted from my school were offered the Spring Program, all extremely qualified students

I went to the OSR query page (http://osr2.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/Access/DB/Frontends/runapp.pl)
and queried on the distribution of colleges and intended disciplines for admits

For Spring 2005 Freshmen, out of a total of 2250, 2139 were to L&S (995 undeclared). 0-Bus-Adm 1-Chemistry, 65-Engineering, 20-Env Design, and 25-Nat Res.

For Fall 2004 Freshmen, out of a total of 9024, 6698 were L&S (2981 Undeclared) 0-Bus Adm, 332-Chemistry, 1153 Engineering, 253 -Env Design, 588-Nat Res.

Looking at the percentages, for Spring, 95% were admitted to L&S, whereas for Fall 74% were to L&S.
For Engineering, 2.8% for Spring, and only 1.2% for Fall. So, there was a higher proportion of Engineering students in the Spring group

Also, of note; out of the total admits for the school year, 19.9% were for Spring

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME (and the people who asked before) IF YOU CAN APPEAL TO ENTER IN FALL?!?! I REALIZED THIS MORNING THAT I WAS ONLY ADMITTED FOR SPRING, AND I AM GOING CRAAAAAAZY. I can drive over to Berkeley at any time over the weekend to plead my case but I'D LIKE TO KNOW IF THEY WOULD EVEN CONSIDER MY APPEAL.

Yes you can appeal for fall if you have a good reason. I know someone who did and got in.

But, being a spring admit is just like being an admit to Berkeley. It is a little disappointing at first but the students there are just as smart and deserving as the fall admits.

I've been accepted as a spring admit and was wondering if I will know whether my spot will be reserved in the fall program before I submit my intent to register form? b/c if I don't have a spot in the program my parents rather me go to UCLA than stay at home for a semester.

megha1027,

From the FPF website:
[quote]
You must submit both your EPF and your SIR to be a part of the Fall Program for Freshmen. Either can be sent in first, but be aware that your EPF must be sent in to reserve a space in the Fall Program for Freshmen, and your SIR must be sent in to accept your admission at Cal.

I suggest you send in the EPF on Monday (via Fed Ex or the like) and then contact the FPF program. They don't mail confirmations until about May 5th, but they may be able to address your question. The EPF will reserve your space.

If you act quickly, you likely don't have anything to worry about in terms of getting one of the 650 slots.

i express mailed my FPF form today haha

If you’re a Spring Admit. Don’t come in the spring. Worst mistake of my life.

Don’t do it.

Don’t do it.

Don’t do it.

Don’t do it.

Why do you think that?
