Spring Admits

there really aren’t that many differences between fpf and normal berkeley-the only thing is that classes are more limited (no chem1a, bio1a, etc), but there is still a wide variety that you can take-you definitely won’t be behind. you can still join clubs, and most definitely greek life-i was in fpf and joined a sorority, and it was a great way to meet people. As for housing, i wouldn’t worry too much-even if you don’t get housing, westminster and tc are great options, and i know a lot of people who lived there and loved it because they mainly house FPF people, so it’s more likely that you will live with people you go to class with.

its more of an disadvantage for those who are majoring in MCB or majors where there’s a lot of pre-requisites. Otherwise, you just complete a lot of breadths or fulfill some of your math/english requirements @ FPF. A pre-business major like myself would not suffer from the lack of class selections at all.

for one, I don’t think you get to enroll in decals, or freshman/sophomore seminars.

If you guys plan on doing FPF, make sure you get your course selection form in early. This will give you priority in selecting FPF classes. This could be the difference between having a hard/easy professor (i.e. math 1a).

ahhh all this information is so reassuring! I felt bummed at first but I feel like now it isn’t such a bad deal after all… thanks so much katelynC91!

post delayed… anyway, thanks to all. birdhouse, What is a decal?

how is foreign language at FPF?

I don’t think there are foreign language courses @ FPF but you can take them once you get on campus. For decal, here’s a link to some of the decals offered this current semester. [DeCal : Courses](<a href=“My Dating Tests – What I learned to avoid”>My Dating Tests – What I learned to avoid)

Hmm, interesting. As I am planning to double major (or atleast minor) in spanish, I wonder if they would let me take a spanish class on the main campus? Well I guess it isn’t a huge deal.

Just clicked the link, but, What is a decal exactly? And is it something that FPF can’t do>?

I made an account just for the sake of answering these questions. I was in FPF last semester, so I understand the confusion some of you guys are going through.

limabean - DeCal stands for Democratic Education at Cal. These are classes that are usually 1-2 units and are taken Pass/No Pass. The cool thing is that they are taught completely by students. Topics become very interesting (Sex and the City, North Korea, Cooking, DJ’ing, etc).
If you decide to enroll in FPF, you will not be able to take these classes until your spring semester. Don’t worry though, there is always a wide range of DeCals to choose from each semester.

To answer your other question, the only thing FPF can’t do is take classes on campus and participate in NCAA sports. They have very few exceptions to the take classes on campus policy, such as Theme Program seminars (although they aren’t really on campus). I know for sure you won’t be able to take spanish on campus, you’ll just have to wait for spring semester. I minoring in spanish also so feel free to message me if you have any questions.

I was admitted for the Spring. I don’t really know what to feel like right now, but I definitely feel like I wasn’t good enough to be accepted normally.

Is there any possibility I can be moved to fall admission ie do spring admits take priority over waitlistees or do they not get to be admitted in the fall at all?

So if I’m in the College of Engineering, would it be more advantageous for me to just take a semester at a community college then instead of FPF?

I feel really bad for feeling like this, but the news of getting spring admit was like a gunshot to my pride.

Californian -

You’re not alone feeling that way. A lot of people feel that they weren’t good enough to admitted for Fall, but sometimes that’s not the case. You might have higher stats than some Fall admits. The bottom line is, you got into Cal.

As for being switched to Fall, it is highly unlikely that could happen. The waitlist is new this year so I’m not sure how that works. Don’t take spring admission too seriously. Everyone gets the same diploma in the end.

tatters -

There’s not really a solid questions for question. Your decision might depend on your major. FPF does not offer many science based classes, like Physics, that might be a pre-req for your major. I recommend using assist.org and the pre-reqs to your major to see what classes you can take at the CC and transfer over. If you could take your pre-reqs at the CC, you won’t waste time in FPF. However, if you’re looking to start your Cal experience right away, you might want to consider FPF.

Think about it this way: Some people would kill to be admitted to spring instead of being rejected.

Thanks GoBears. Out of curiosity I applied to Engineering, could this have affected my placement into the Spring acceptance instead?

Callifornian - Well… in a way… kind of. The only colleges to admit students into spring is L&S and CoE. So maybe if you would applied to CED or CNR you might have gotten Fall admission, or you might have been rejected. It really depends on how you look at it.

do people at cal look down on spring admits and or fpf students? cuz I’m already looking down on my own self. but at least I’m in!!!

Nobody looks down on spring admits. You have nothing to be worried about

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL SPRING ADMITS!

I got in as a spring admit, but should i do FPF or cc? some people say that FPF is a waste of money, and not worth it.

thedash -

Absolutely not. No one will even know you are a FPF student/spring admit unless you tell them. No one really cares actually.
