Spring Break Visits

I have spring break the last week of March. I hope to visit a bunch of Illinois schools like Northwestern, Chicago, U of I etc..Do colleges usually offer tours around this time, when all of their students are away? Or can me and a friend just walk in and tour the campus ourselves? Thanksa bunch

Check with the colleges to be certain, but usually they are open for tours during breaks. You should also check to see if it is necessary to register in advance.

All of those schools will have tours during spring break. Be sure to peruse their websites for information on their breaks, student overnights and travel information. While all three are in Illinois, they aren't that convenient to each other.
Reviving this thread. My parents dont have off on spring break so me and a good friend who is also a junior decided to plan a mini road trip. I have a problem convincing my parents to let me go. Now ive made this trip as responsible and safe as possible. We would leave around 8 am and visit 2-3 college a day for about 3 days. So we would probably be gone the whole day and come back at like 8. I live in Chicago and me and my friend planned out an efficient way to visit colleges in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana. Problem is my parents cannot be convinced. Their problem involves us driving 5-7 hours each day. Ive told them id call every time we enter a new state and get to the campus but my dad wont budge. Any adivce? My dad's really strict but I can see that hes worried about me and my friend driving ourselves to indiana and wisconsin on the highway. Ive already told him we'd be home each day. =[

Would your parent agree to your using the bus or train instead of driving? I know it isn't nearly as efficient, but you could start with one school and kind of ease them into it. There is a lot to worry about with 16/17 year old drivers in strange city, so I think your confidence in doing this so easily is misplaced. And, when there is a major disagreement like this, both sides have to give something.

If they agree to a visit by public transportation, search the university web sites for your options. Also, check to see if you need reservations for tours, etc.

Planning on 2-3 schools a day is a lot. When you look up the times of tours and info sessions, you'll see that they overlap at many schools.

I'm going to UCLA, UCI and UCB visits on my spring break

I'm headed up to Boston to check out MIT and Harvard, so excited

My Spring break is the 1st week of April, right after most UCs have their spring break so I'd be good to go!

Visiting two colleges a day is a lot....a lot of walking, a lot of talking, a lot of listening, and a lot of concentrating. If you add driving 5-7 hours each day on top of that, you'll be totally shellacked.

Perhaps scale back your trip. Or perhaps see if Dad will let you do something closer to home, just for one day. But a 3 day trip with all that visiting and all that driving would be completely exhausting.

^ True

I'm doing stay overs at UCB and UCLA, maybe even at UCI

stay over programs are kool, c=relatively inexpensive and u hang out for 2 days and one night'!

probably a stupid question, but who on campus do u spend the night with?

Just and update, Parents let me go! But ive decided to only visit one a day. And smartee, you stay with a current student.

During my spring break i have to go to my college and do Orientation stuff. Like take placement test and what not.

top smarteenangel:

At UCI u can sign up for their Stay over program, it's for two days, one night, u spend it with one of the assigned juniors or seniors who are mentors.

You go to classes with them, hang out, eat, and get a free t-shirt!
It's like the "be a college student" for a day thing!

It's 20 dollars and from what I hear, totally worth it.

I'm staying at my friend's department in Berkeley when I go visit
and for UCLA.... I think they have a stay-over program, I'm not sure, but I don't live too far away from it.
