I know that because of the quater system, the breaks off from Chicago and others school is usually different. I know that for the msot part, the bulk of winter break overlaps with everyone else..what I was wondering was what is the deal with spring break? I heard somewhere that Chicago has its Spring Break on a completely different week than every other school? Is this true? Because that would really suck.....

I think you're right.

That it sucks or that it's on a completely different week?

.......both.

It is relatively the same as other schools on the quarter system. Chicago's quarter/spring break this year is now. It began on March 18, though if one finishes finals earlier, then it can begin earlier, and ends on March 26. The real difference is that Chicago does not begin fall quarter until the end of September, whereas many schools begin up to a month or more earlier.

Being "relatively the same" is pretty much worthless. If mine is March 18th to March 26th, and my sister's is one week later, they are relatively the same... Except they don't overlap at all.

(Yes, I'm just bitter because my sister is also on the quarter system and I don't get to see her until Summer. Sorry for lashing out, I really don't dislike you, idad. I have a friend at another school on the quarter system, except he went to the bahamas for SB. Insert more bitterness here ;-))

on a semester system right now and on spring break, so i guess it would work out okay for me.

on a side note, i'm bitter i don't get to see zach's sister too...

What ever led you to believe that most colleges break for the same week? Sprink breaks are spread over multiple weeks. It makes sense. How easy do you think it would be to get flights, hotel rooms etc. if everyone went at the same time?

This is college, not HS.

About 90% of the students from my HS went out of state for college. Since I'm instate for now, I see almost everybody when they come back for spring break (if they decide to come back). Newmassdad is right, it wouldn't make sense for everyone to have their break at the same time.

Since the last week of February (I think they were from UMICH), I've had 2-3 friends coming back and going every week, and it will be like this untill the middle of April ( my break starts the 12th of April). I have a couple of friends coming back this week, which is the same time as UChicago. There are a LOT of colleges and they mostly have individual breaks, some overlap and others don't. It's not necessarily specific to Chicago.

However, starting in late september is pretty horrible. My friend who went to Stanford was depressed waiting for school at home when everyone was at their own colleges already.
