What do most freshmen do for spring break? I'm from Texas so I mean whether I go home or go somewhere else it'll be costly anyway. Do lots of people stay on campus, and is there a lot going on, or is it pretty barren and do people go home or organize trips or anything?

go back to where you came from and either volunteer or do homework. use the time wisely!

Here is a pretty good recent thread relating to your question:

[thread=690498]Staying at school over breaks?[/thread]

go to acapulco with your friends. or go skiing. freshman year i went on a roadtrip and visited my friends at their schools, which wasnt very expensive. the cornell ski club does a trip on spring break that is relatively inexpensive. you can find last minute deals on trips to warm places for low prices. if you dont have a car, you can rent one if you are 18 but have to pay an extra 25$ per day. some people also just go home. its nice to relax and get away. it is worth trying to work the summer before college or during winter break and make money to use for breaks, because you will be really bored if you are stuck here.

other kids also visit cornell friends in warm places. flights to florida are 150 from syracuse, so if you can find a friend who lives somewhere warm, that could be a good option.

do not worry about planning too far in advance, for the past two years all of my friends planned everything in feb and found cheap trips. freshman year i thought you had to plan everything way far in advance, and i booked a plane ticket during my first semester… my plans then changed and i got stuck having to cancel the flight.

there is also an alternative breaks group that you can apply to join for a spring break trip that is usually service oriented.

no one is here on breaks for the most part. if you have the opportunity not to do work, relax and you will enjoy the low stress environment no matter where you are. if you ask around and find the right opportunity, generally you can find a great trip by the beginning of the second semester for a low price (sometimes just the cost of a plane ticket).

Thanks jcas. I’m definitely planning on being active in the Ski/Board Club, so maybe I’ll go for that. I just wasn’t sure what most people did, and wanted to get some idea so I’d know whether or not I’d need to save up some money for a trip possibly. My mom is already trying to buy tickets for me coming home for thanksgiving and winter breaks… Goodness.
