Surely this isn’t for Spring 2013?! What sort of time-frame is this for? Kids seeking co-ops for Fall 2013, Summer 2013, or Fall 2014…or even beyond?

Ah yes, I stand corrected, Honda and Mercedes have AC listed in the broad range of majors listed - I wonder what the positions are. Would have hoped to see public acctg/finance opportunities, surprised there aren’t. Something to follow up on for sure.

The Co-Op process at UA is very disappointing to me as a parent of an aero-eng’g major. If you look at the form that companies fill out to register for this event, Aero-Eng’g is not even listed. So, right off the bat, no aero-related company is going to even bother to look further at this event, IMO. (Accounting is clearly listed, by the way.) Aero is the only eng’g branch at UA not represented. Oh, I know some of the major reasons for this, so don’t jump down my throat. I’m just venting about how disappointing this is…and needs to change…and hope it does before too long.
Here is the link if you want to look at the form that companies fill out, listing majors: [Interview Day Employer Registration | Cooperative Education Program - The University of Alabama](http://coop.eng.ua.edu/iday/employer-registration/)
And, here is the list of companies registered so far: http://coop.eng.ua.edu/files/Company-IDay-Requirements-Letter-Size.pdf

I am disappointed too, even though acctg is listed there aren’t any firms participating…not that my son necessarily would do this it seems to me this could also translate to lack of internships also, i was under impression there would be more…

Co-ops and internships are very different. The lack of one doesn’t mean the lack of the other…at all. Many companies don’t do co-ops, they only do internships.

For internships, you should look at the College. Have you looked on the Culverhouse website in the Accounting area? Has your student visited the office and directly asked?

Coops are very different than internships and are mainly geared towards engineering majors. Internships are found through the career fairs and the indidividual opportunities through the colleges.

CBA requires a login we don’t have to view current internships, no mention of coops on their page however. Career fair doesn’t list who is attending but I would also think that is geared toward those looking beyond graduation, so not sure on that. Mom2CK my son is an incoming freshman so he hasn’t had much time to research all of this , he is busy trying to figure out housing at this point We asked many questions on these topics during our visit and tour, were reassured there were many opps.

I have reached out to CBA, will post here any updates i find in case there are others interested. My bad for asssuming the list of coops would have been comprehensive.

It is unfortuante that they are geared toward engineering mainly…perhaps we can change that. I actually was a coop student back in the day, couldn’t have gotten through my undergrad without it. I actually found my own employer for my coop experience all those years ago. Best thing I ever did, before graduation already had an offer in hand from a Big (back then 8) firm, who only recruited a handful from our campus. Experience counts…:)

Has anyone been able to get the link Aeromom posted for the list of companies to work? I’m getting a 404 error. I’m very curious to see this list.

I think those who want particular info should contact the woman listed above. I imagine that the company list has not yet been finalized. My H’s company will likely be there (it usually is), but it’s not listed yet.

VERY odd! The link is no longer accessible from the Co-Op website. (It was there last night.) The link still works for me, but I’m on a computer, not a tablet/phone. Is that the problem?
It was just a PDF anyway (and a rough looking document at that), so I’m sure it was just a draft, and they are updating it. Keep checking back via this: [Interview Day – Spring 2013 | Cooperative Education Program - The University of Alabama](http://coop.eng.ua.edu/iday/)

Curiously none of the co-op employers are in Huntsville. We are led to believe that the many tech companies at the research park recruit at UA. Why no co-op opportunities?

Some companies do not offer co-ops or only offer co-ops in some departments. It’s not unheard of for a student to have the same internship for multiple years, but many will have internships with different companies.

As a business major, there are a number of internships posted on CrimsonCareers that might be of interest. Several of the companies at the career fairs were hiring interns and some were only hiring interns. At least one of the Big 4 accounting firms hosts a lot of events at UA looking for interns and full time hires. There is also at least one prestigious consulting firm that recruits on campus for both interns and full time hires.

In addition, don’t forget to apply to jobs with companies that don’t recruit at UA. Some of my most promising internship and full time employment opportunities have been from companies that don’t officially recruit at UA or post jobs on Crimson Careers. UA grads and even more UA fans work throughout the country and around the world.
