Spring Enrollment on back door link

Today I was finally able to use the third back door link, and the enrollment page shows up with my information. However on the left side of the screen it says: "Spring Enrollment commitment deadline: 6/1/2010". Does this mean I'm deferred to the spring semester? What does it say for everyone else?

this is what I have:
“Freshman Enrollment
Commitment Deadline:
5/1/2010.
Enrollment Commitments submitted after this date will only be accepted on a case-by-case basis.”

yea so I guess I got in for the spring? Anyone else have the spring message on the side?

I don’t think i would go if I got in with spring admit, what’re you thinking?

i can’t even access that form yet haha. hope that means they are still making a decision. i probably wouldn’t go if i got spring admit either

I think I probably would do spring if thats what I got, it would be a tougher transition than fall but USC has always been my dream school. I also plan on joining a fraternity so I know I would be able to meet people through that. I would definitely have to think it over though.

It really is something you have to think over carefully - that is why they give you an extra month.

Some decide to go the Fall semester to another 4-yr university to which they have been admitted and then to USC in Spring. (And some of those who do find they love the other university and decide to stay there rather than the planned move to USC.)

Some knock out some GEs at a community college.

Some do a mini gap year kind of thing in the Fall.

Some work and put aside spending money.

Some decide to go to another university.

In any case…

CONGRATULATIONS on your Spring admission!!!

As I mentioned on another thread, this is the same message D1 received, and she is definitely inclined to go, regardless of the later start.

A young man whose family we know very well was a spring admit last year, and word from his family is that there was no problem at all with the transition and he is loving USC.

Finally, I checked the panhellenic website, as my daughter is definitely interested in joining a sorority, and they clearly anticipate a wave of spring admits and advise them that while they will have to wait until fall 2011 for formal rush, there are likely to be events during the spring term through which they can demonstrate their interest and familiarize themselves with Greek life.

So why is someone admitted to the spring but not the fall? Is that a practice that all colleges do now?

azmom-no USC is one of the only schools that I am aware of doing the spring admit program. Because SC does not have a wait list, they admit those that would be on a wait list for the fall term into the spring term.

Thanks for the reply - that actually makes sense! Although, that would be a tough decision - I think if my son gets spring admit, he will just go to ASU’s Honors College where he has a scholarship.

yeah i’ve thought a lot about that-spring admit to SC would be cool, but you kinda miss out on the whole freshman experience of moving in with all the other freshman and getting used to the campus and such.

Does anyone know the chances of being moved from spring to fall?

Chances are, unfortunately, slim to be moved up to fall, especially if you are in a major/school that becomes overenrolled (more students matriculate than modeled). That said, there are times when we’ve seen a cc spring admit move up to fall. One was in SCA (Critical Studies) so maybe they tend to be conservative and under-accept in SCA because of high yield and therefore can move up a spring admit or more to get their numbers right. Fauxnom sometimes pops in to post about it.

I know another spring admit (Marshall) that didn’t get moved up, but he’s had a great time at USC nonetheless. In a great frat (rushed fall soph year), loads of friends, got into the Marshall freshman travel program. It may not seem ideal at first, but if you are determined to be a Trojan, it can be fine.
