Spring enrollment

What is Spring enrollment and what do i do in the fall?

You have the chance of going to FPF, taking the semester off, or going to community college in the fall.

Do FPF. Sign up now. I highly recommend it. I regret not doing it. The classes there, from what I hear, are tremendously easier than real Berkeley and they also count towards your UC GPA. So it’s a really good situation to be in. You can take some of those weeder classes like Math 1A or 1B.

Spring enrolment is given as an option for those who could not be placed into regular fall admission because of space constraints (Berkeley waits for seniors to graduate in fall before letting more people in), and other reasons.

During fall, you can attend the FPF (fall program for freshmen) or take the time to engage in what pursuits tickle your fancy (internship, vacation, working, etc).

here’s more information on FPF: [Fall Program for Freshmen — UC Berkeley Extension](http://extension.berkeley.edu/fpf/)

I also got accepted to the Spring Enrollment and I’m looking to apply/register for the FPF but I have been wait listed for UChicago. Can I submit my Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) for Berkeley and the FPF program and retract later if I get accepted by UChicago? It’s a statement of intent so I would imagine so but I want to make sure; I know I’ll lose the $100 for the SIR and $115 registration fee for FPF. In all honesty, my chances are so slim at UChicago but if I get accepted I really would like to go being my first choice for college. Any help is truly appreciated. I know I’ll have no regrets at Berkeley anyways just in the unlikelihood that UChicago accepts me it would be a dream for me.

I was also accepted as a spring applicant! I really cannot be unhappy about that considering I was rejected from UCLA, USC, Cornell, and thought I had no chance at UCB. Can someone explain what FPF is? I’m not really understanding.

Wait, I’m super confused as well. Can someone clarify what this means?

Where in Berkeley are the FPF classes held? Right next to the main campus?

My oldest son who is a senior at UCB was a spring admit and went to FPF. He took his math, English, Psychology, and an Astronomy class and got UC credit for them. It is an excellent program. I would recommend it.

Does your guys’ financial aid say you are enrolled in and housing in fall?

yup! mine said that too. but i couldn’t care less right now since i’m admitted already. xD LOLOLOL My life feels so complete at this moment. i spent like two hours from doing my homework just to look at all this info on berkeley. xD

^Dude you don’t know how stressed I have been lately. I was floored when I was rejected by all 3 of UCLA, USC, and Cornell. Now I have to write not one, but two essays for tomorrow. Great!

^at least you’ll be in a good mood while doing it. xD LOL.

It’s a few blocks from main campus (like <5min walk/right behind people’s park and unit 2). Yes, you can, and should, put your deposit down and wait for other colleges. I did that since I was waitlisted to a ton of my higher choices, and it was a good choice

That being said, I would have much rather gone abroad for a semester and just explored…backpacked and stuff, but I couldn’t put a practical ($$$) plan together since I began thinking about it too late.

what about housing?! how and when can we apply, and there’s only 700 spots. i hope i get it

FPF gives you much of the actual Berkeley experience, but has only a limited selection of courses (e.g. no math beyond 1B, no lab science or computer science courses, only freshman level courses – basically the courses that are inexpensive to teach).

Community college may be a better option for those who want to take math courses more advanced than 1B or lab science courses. It is likely that many such students are in the College of Engineering. Some students may find the community college option to be a way to save most of one semester’s worth of attendance costs.

^^^ You can petition for concurrent enrollment for higher level math. I could have taken 53, but they told me to take 1B, I took it since I didn’t know any better and could have skipped it, and after I found out and asked (first week or so of school), they said it was too late and I should have petitioned before school started.

so I could take 53 if I’m in FPF if I petition for it??? I’m pretty sure i can 5 the ap calc bc exam

If you do FPF and want to take a math course more advanced than 1B, you may want to consider the options in post #4 of http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-berkeley/1305840-freshman-math-faq.html</a> .

Yes! What ucbalumnus said! I say do it if you can and want to do a major that needs 53/54. Do it BEFORE school starts though, or they won’t let you (>:K)

edit: answered my own questions with more searching! thanks for the help guys
