Spring Entry Admission

Hi everyone!
Congratulations to everyone admitted for the class of 2022! I was admitted under the Spring Entry Program, meaning I can attend SMU in the Spring 2019 semester, but would have to spend my fall semester elsewhere, either domestically or abroad. I was wondering if any of you have either participated in this program or know anything about it. I would definitely consider the program if I was offered financial aid. With this kind of admittance, do you receive any kind of merit aid or scholarship, or do you forgo that not being outright admitted for Fall 2018?

Thanks!

My D just admitted for SMU Spring 2019 ? Happy but ? She has a 4.37 GPA all A’s since 8th grade. 4 AP classes with two University of Virginia university courses (A’s) taken there last summer.

@lovewinter Is she considering accepting it? I was a little bummed to not get in for fall as well, since I definitely thought I was in the realm of admissions…but it is a highly competitive school. I registered to go to the Spring Entry open house at SMU on March 22nd to find out more information, as I live in-state.

I got into Spring too. Bummed I didnt get in for Fall. 1190 SAT, 1220 Superscore. 3.6 gpa, out of state.

@JulienEd I was upset as well. 1340 SAT, 3.7 GPA, #40 in my class…I guess it was just more competitive this year. Are you considering taking Spring Entry?

eh i dont know man. ill have to weigh it with other options.

S was also admitted for Spring 2019 SAT 1270 4.0 GPA 30 credit hours for 8 AP exams; considering the study abroad program in London for fall. Also wondering about financial aid before deciding on SMU. S also admitted to TCU (fall '18) and awarded Founders Scholarship, University of Florida (still awaiting to hear about financial aid), Cap’d at UT Austin. If anyone has advice on Spring admission, it would be much appreciated. We too, have registered for the March 22nd Spring Entry Open House. Has anyone submitted their Spring Entry Interest Form yet?

@RebeccaAllford I was admitted to Baylor with a pretty nice scholarship, and am waiting to hear from TCU ( I applied RD). I am also considering the study abroad as I think it could be an incredible experience. I have not submitted the interest form yet, as I didn’t know if that was some sort of binding contract. Hoping that more questions will be answered after attending the open house!

@ag2018 applied rd as well and wanted to know what spring 2019 admission is. Was put on the waitlist.

@ag2018 Congrats on your accomplishments! Looks as if you have many great opportunities to choose from! I did some research and it would appear that the interest form is in no way binding nor takes the place of accepting enrollment with SMU. It has to be submitted by April 1st and is probably more of a way for the university to gauge student interest in the program and options available to them for fall (attend school elsewhere as a visiting student or study abroad)as well as one’s major/minor preferences. We clicked “accept” on the interest form in order to see the additional questions posed and they were exactly as I mentioned above… a drop down menu asking what major/minor you plan to pursue, and asks details about your fall semester options and what your preferences are: top choice, acceptable choice, or not interested ( i.e. enroll as a visiting student at another university, study abroad in Switzerland, or study abroad in London) On the Spring Entry FAQ webpage it states " Complete the Spring Entry Interest Form (link found in your spring entry offer letter) by April 2. In early April, you will receive your Fall Experience Notification. After you receive your notification, you must accept your fall experience and pay your deposit deadline of $685 by May 1 to secure your spot in the Spring Entry Program." This leads me to believe that your decision is NOT considered binding until you accept the fall experience notification by the May 1 deadline. All this being said, my son has not submitted his interest form as of yet. We are still awaiting correspondence from SMU through the mail and hope to hear something ASAP about possible financial aid award. I emailed his financial aid advisor yesterday morning and have heard nothing back thus far. SMU is a great university, however, without some sort of aid, we will not be considering this as a choice. Unfortunately, our EFC is too great for federal financial aid. Best of luck to you! Maybe we’ll see you at the Open House! =)

@RebeccaAllford Thank you so much for your kind words and the information you provided, I really appreciate it! I have not submitted my interest form yet either, and am also hoping for financial aid as SMU will be out of reach without it. I fell in love with SMU anew each time I visited, so I am really hoping it is a viable option for me! Wishing all the best to you and your son in the rest of the (stressful) college admissions process. See y’all at Open House! Thanks again

I know I am responding to an old thread but got offered 2022 Spring admission today and wondering when we hear about scholarships and financial aid? Do you guys remember how long after offer you got financial news?
