Spring/Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

Feel free to posts stats, classes taken/taking, university or community college you’re attending and what major you’re planning on applying for

Hey! Glad to see a post for those of us setting our sights on 2016 admission.

I’ve already applied (recently) as a Spring 2016 transfer student–I graduated from Tyler Junior College in May with my AA degree in history. Final GPA was 3.9.

My application has said it’s complete for about a week now. I definitely keep checking the page every day for a status change, nonetheless!

@swasher I don’t think they’re going to send out acceptances or denies until late december or early january no matter how early you applied. But i’m not sure, post on here if you hear anything back.

@swasher I wouldn’t sweat it, you’re in unless you said something egregious in your essays.

Im just finishing up my second essay and I plan to send in my application by this Friday. I was hoping if someone would be able to chance me?

Ive completed 30 hours at the University of Houston and Im in the process of completing another 15. My current GPA is a 3.76 and my first choice major is COLA Government.

Im not sure if theres any other info I need to supply but just message me if I need to add anything. Also I was wondering how important the essay is?

Thanks in Advance!

@Sarasali96 Your GPA is above average for COLA, which is a good sign. Do you have any extracurriculars that jump out? The essays are certainly important, though it most likely won’t make or break your application if you do a good job. Obviously a very good essay could move you from the maybe pile to an outright acceptance, and a very poorly written essay could get you rejected. The vast majority of the essays they get will be somewhere in the middle, they will be well written but they won’t necessarily stand out. Just try your best and don’t half-ass it and it shouldn’t hurt you. Though it probably won’t help you either if you have to rush.

Unfortunately the only extra curricular I have is volunteering at my local REC center as a tutor every Saturday so Im not sure if thats going to be worth much on my application. And thanks for the advice on the essays. I actually completely rewrote my second one yesterday so I probably won’t be turning in my App for another week or so at least.

Hey guys, I’m wondering if I should apply. I’d love to go to UT, but I’m not sure if I see a route of getting in for the spring. My target is Texas A&M right now since they only prefer 24 completed hours and calculate GPA differently (about a 3.52).

School: University of Texas at Dallas
Major: Political Science
Hours completed: 28
GPA: 3.40
Transferring into: COLA – Government
Extracurriculars: Good, not spectacular
Volunteer work: Decent
Essays: I’ve written essay A and I think it’s very very good. I don’t know if I should or what to write about for essay C. I take it that essay B isn’t for me?

I’m going to have 43 completed by the end of this upcoming semester.

Planning to apply soon for COLA economics, just finishing up my application essays. Would anyone be willing to read my statement of purpose and give me their feedback on it?

@temoc22 I think you got a shot at UT. Looking at the website, I agree that I don’t think essay B is for you.

@longhorntobe If you want, I can try to give a critique on it. I’m no english major but I can try.

@Toastyful

I actually sent in an application today. Completed my essays over the last few days and thought they were very good.

So my question now is, now what? lol.

I need to send
college transcipts
highschool transcripts

what else?

Just wait?

Hey! How are my chances looking guys? 3.65 with 29 credits. Applying to cns and cola undeclared for both. 2 recs over 100 hours pretty decent essays.

You should be fine for COLA. Not sure about CNS.

Would you say I change my major from cns to something else… Even though my essay A is basically all about science? I just really want to get in at this point

I would suggest just to stick with it. Your GPA doesn’t look too bad. I’m just unsure about you having 29 credits. http://catalog.utexas.edu/general-information/admission/undergraduate-admission/transfer-admission/

It may not be a big deal but you should look into that.

@sunshine97 That’s a bummer…it’s going to be a very long few months, haha. I’ll definitely post here if I hear anything sooner! Thus far, the only thing that’s changed on mystatus is a bullet point concerning the fact that some majors have prerequisites. It went away after about week, though.

@Sarasali96 The only extracurricular I have (if you could call it that) is tutoring as well; I tutored at my college for a few months last fall semester. Here’s hoping for both of us!

I’m applying to a couple schools this year im from a California community college

@Deangeloyouknow

Where to?

I’m applying to Texas A&M-College Station and UT-Austin this year. I currently go to UT-Dallas.

I’ll probably be frequenting these threads for a few months.
