Who is applying for RTF? What are your backup schools?
Do you think it matters WHEN your application was listed as completed/on time on UT EID? My application was complete as of January 22nd. I was wondering if you would hear back sooner given the amount of time it was submitted before March 1st.
I guess I have a hard time understanding that even though I submitted my application in January, I could be waiting six months to hear back…
@cls4763 I don’t think admissions reviews applications till after the March deadline. I submitted mine on January 5th.
@Newsie2015 I am applying for RTF. For back up schools I went for UTSA, Texas State, Texas A&M San Antonio, and Texas Tech.
@Davecloud you are correct they will not look at applications until after the deadline.
Can I get a chance me (wut wut)!

@utcswannabe Obviously your GPA and extracurriculars are great, my only concern is your rigor of coursework. Most other CS applicants I saw last year getting accepted had several Calc, CS, and science courses complete. Are you currently taking any other classes?
Those stats seem a bit odd. I was told by admissions that they only accept around 9 external transfers. Also, if we do happen to get a decision past the spring semester, does that mean they will be taking our spring semester grades into account? They told me that since I already have more than 30 credits, they won’t be looking at my spring semester as a factor into my decision. @cowtongue
@golf1234 I think the nine would be for one of the harder departments to get into but the less competitive allow a lot more than 9. They are correct they will only use the credits you used when you applied, but they will want to see your spring semester grades if you are accepted. As long as you don’t tank the semester you will be fine, I believe.
I got the stats from [this post from last year’s thread.](Summer/Fall 2015 Transfer Thread - #1637 by MyUTAustin - The University of Texas at Austin - College Confidential Forums)
It only factors in people from the thread, but it’s for all majors.
@BladesofGlory Sorry, I should have specified. They told me that the Jackson School of Geosciences only accepts 9 external transfers. It is such a small amount because not many people go into that major. About 100 external transfers apply per year.
Chance this “returning” student, UT Austin hopeful? Please?
I’m currently 30, and have been going to college for 2 years. I tried to college when I was 20… let’s not talk about that LOL GPA was 2.something… Fast forward to NOW, from the last 2 years…
Transfer from: oos community college- Arizona
- Major- Composite Science- UTEACH 8-12th grade. CNS- Biology
2nd choice: COLA undeclared
GPA: 3.72 - 58 credit hours
- I DO have Bio 1 and 2 (majors only courses) completed, both with an A
- Currently in chemistry
- All of my math classes I have attempted so far are A’s.
I do not have Calc yet. Since I returned to school at 28… I couldn’t remember a lot of the stuff, so I started at the
bottom math, and am currently in College Functions. Reading the math class descriptions at UTA, the class I’m in is
EXACTLY like UT’s Preperation for Calc class… so if I was accepted, it would seem I could take Calc 1 right away. - 2 excellent essays… not trying to sound egotistical… but they are very outside the box, thought provoking, and I am
almost positive will stand out above others whose stats are similar. - My transcripts show outstanding progression.
- One time volunteer work for an owl conservation
- No LOR
Any thoughts on my chances of getting in are greatly appreciated! My status is currently completed-on time. Cant wait to hear something!!
Can someone chance me?!
I am applying for Public Relations at Moody (Communications)
Sophomore
54 hours by the end of the semester
Current GPA: 3.53
Estimated GPA by May: 3.6
Resume is stacked, I have 5 internships in the music business right now with various production and promotion companies. In addition to 3 years of experience in PR with the focus of music business.
I feel that my two essays (a & e) were really strong and my passion and drive for communications and the music business is very apparent.
3 LOR.
i’m only 19 so i hope that all my hustling and working in the business is impressive to the admissions office.
I haven’t come across anyone applying to PR, so plz halp!
@supersaayan sorry, honestly can’t chance you since i dont really know about the school itself, but just wondering since im very interested in the music business as well, why did you decide on PR as a major? and who do you have internships with? I chose RTF for my major myself, also transferring. good luck to you with your application!
Hi! I’m planning on transferring for Fall 2016. Does UT look at your Fall 2015 GPA as the primary determining factor or the Spring 2016 GPA? I can’t turn in my spring GPA until May, but it is projected to be significantly higher than my fall one. I was relying on this as I thought this was the GPA they’d look at. Please let me know, thanks!
Can someone chance me please for both majors?
1st choice: Public Health (CNS)
2nd choice: Kinesiology, Health Promotion (education)
Current GPA (Fall 2015) 3.55
Expected GPA (end of Spring 2016 - cumulative) 3.75
Significant classes taken/will complete by end of Spring 2016:
-Calc 1 (A)
-Bio 1 (B), lab (B+)
-Chem 1 (A-), lab (A-)
-Bio 2 (A), lab (A)
-Honors courses at UH Honors College (accounting, human sit, history)
2 LORs, 2 excellent essays, great resume.
@supersaayan Your GPA is a tad on the low side, but I think your resume speaks for itself and I think you’ll be fine. I plan on trying to double major with PR being my second one, so I might see you.
@britni12 I am not sure about computer science and how your stats compare, but you look solid to at least get into COLA.
@hookem2016 If you already applied with over 30 credits then it will be whatever GPA you used to apply with. If you are admitted they will want to see your grades for spring to make sure you didn’t just blow off the semester. If you haven’t earned those 30 credits then they will wait for your spring grades.
As for your stats they look pretty solid. I’m not sure about Public Health but I had a friend who got in with Kinesiology with a 3.5 GPA so I think you’re good for that at least.
@BladesofGlory I never said computer science lol College of Natural Science- Biology
edit: ooohhh, you saw composite science. That’s a teaching degree. Composite means Bio, Chem, Physics, and Geology.
@britni12 yea I meant composite I think my autocorrect messed that one up. At least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Hi all! I just finished my application (oops)! What are my chances?
High School:
GPA: 3.96 UW, 4.212 W
Class Rank: 2/553
ACT: 35 (didn’t take SAT)
Many AP scores (all 4’s and 5’s)
Extracurriculars: NHS, managed volleyball team, Eco Team, lots of volunteer work
College:
University of Notre Dame First-Year
GPA: 3.778 (dean’s list)
Member of three political clubs on campus, Model UN, have a part time job, competitive Mock Trial, tutor in a struggling neighbourhood in South Bend
I’m a PoliSci major currently but I want to work with Environmental Policy in the EPA after law school. I have a lot of enviro experience from high school and this year and interned with a judge last summer.
I think my essays were pretty good but nothing too flashy. I am not sure about my letter of rec, but he seems to like me. I just hope it won’t be a generic rec.
I applied last year and was put on the waitlist (lack of uniqueness/ not great essays). Very good interview.
Just wanted to see what you all think!
@BladesofGlory So… you think I have a chance at college of natural science?
Also… mystatus says this on the financial aid tab:
“Decisions about financial aid will be made after you have been officially admitted and your financial aid application has been processed.”
I know of another person applying and their status still says financial aid info is restricted to accepted students.
